:( My boyfriend and I broke up yesterday. He was mad that a guy came looking for a roofing job and I was talking to him on the front porch..omg are you serious! How many of you lost a relationship due to loosing so much weight and your other half could not handle the new attention you get? I am more hurt than anything. Its not like I was flirting with the guy or anything. I didn't even know him. :(

First off, I'm sorry that you were hurt.

I don't mean to sound critical of your boyfriend or your relationship, but it sounds like he was looking for a reason to split and maybe the relationship wasn't as sound as you may have thought.

Is he overweight? Whether he is or isn't, this is all about his insecurities. The right "one" will be presented to you when it's time. :(

I broke up with him. I told him that I was just talking about work. He was very upset

and mad that I was talking to a guy at all no matter what

it was about. Guess its just time to keep moving!

maybe u look liked u were flirting in his eyes...sometimes we flirt n we dont even kno it..if u really love him maybe u should of sat down n talked about his jealously & if he doesnt stop then tell him its over...but jus breaking it off jus cuz hes jealous, doesnt sound too right...If a guy TRULEY loves u, he will get jealous (even for the smallest things) not saying thats healthy, just sayin it does happen....I kno my bf gonna get hella jealous when I lose weight cuz im a pretty big girl n get guys attention all the time..hes jealous right now lol...buttt I sit n talk 2 him all the time I tell him I kno u love me but if u get jealous/mad 4 every little single thing then I cant deal wit it and its gonna b over...so now he knows 2 control himself...good luck 2 u n hopefully ur ex changes, if not, find a new 1

I think jealousy is controlling and can't abide it, myself. Good grief; you've only lost 1/4 or so of your weight (great though that is) WTH would he do once you've lost about 1/2? Locked you up in a room a la some weirdo slasher flick or something? It's HIS problem; he needs to deal with it. You did the right thing. Relationships cannot function without trust. Well, dysfunctional relationships can thrive with jealousy and drama but that doesn't sound like what you want.

Don't feel guilty.

And next time, DO flirt with the roofer, if he's cute. :(

You need to be very careful of guys that get jealous when you talk to or look at another guy. It can escalate into a major problem and I am talking from experience although it was a hell of a long time ago now.

I agree; it's manipulative and controlling at worst. At best it's a sign of insecurity and foolishness. Either way it would be a big old RED LIGHT for me and I think the OP did the right thing!

The guy needs therapy to deal with whatever issues caused his outbreak; I bet he won't get it though.

Sounds like maybe your bf has some insecurity himself and until he is able to work on that then who knows what he would have been like in the future. He should be happy and proud to have you on his arm and no that you aren't going anywhere. Besides the other ppl were right the weight you have lost so far (while it is a huge accomplisment) is really nothing. I mean what would have happened when you lost 70lbs. Everything happens for a reason. and who knows maybe after a couple days without you he will realize what an ass he was being. But if he doesn't then it just means there is a better man out there for you in your future.

Sorry you are hurting.....STUPID BOYS!! LOL

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
