Thanks everyone! Just found some wifi, my surgery isn't until this afternoon (poo) so I'm playing the waiting game right now. Anyway, anyone been to Detroit recently? All I can say is "wow." I almost feel like I'm in one of those sci-fi movies where everyone has been abducted.

Hi Addypoo,

Today you will face a few challenges post-op. Girl power and the will to be healthy will get you through. Rely on the people who love you and the pain meds. I tried to be super mom and damn near passed out.

**HYDRATION, Protein, AND VITAMINS.**

Thanks for all your kinds words. Yesterday was my first day post-op and let's just say it was ROUGH. I've never had a major surgery before, so I guess I was just naive about the amount of pain and discomfort I'd experience after the surgery. On top of that, after I was discharged from the hospital we still had to drive from Detroit back to Wisconsin. Phew. I was so glad to be home. My mom was here waiting for me and went and filled all my prescriptions and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She also gave my exhausted boyfriend some respite. I'm glad I ended up getting the surgery, but I now know that if I end up having extra skin there is no way I'm going in for plastic surgery! As far as pain goes the narcotics they gave me are definitely taking care of that. My only complaints are my complete lack of desire to want to drink anything and that I'm a little gassy. Not too bad, overall.

Hey Abbypoo

Glad to hear that you're home and in great hands ( wish my mom was here ). Get your rest and whenever you can walk and walk even if it's just in the hallway that should help with the gas. One word of advice if you start to get nauseau just have your primary call in some Zofran, it worked wonders on me and finally allowed me to sleep !!!

I am feeling SO MUCH better today. Last night I got worried because I started to run a fever. I got to 100.8 and the doc said to call when it got to 100.5. Fortunately it was not due to infection and I am back down to a normal temp. today. I still haven't been able to finish an entire Protein Drink, but I think I figured out about how much I can drink before I feel full. I am so happy that I haven't "regurgitated" anything yet. I suppose I'll learn that lesson sooner or later, though. Oh, but check this out the nurse gave me the Heparin shot before surgery in the exact same place as the doc cut one of my incisions so now I have this HUGE bruise next to my belly button... yikes!

Sounds like things went well overall, but I am sorry you were in so much pain. I went ahead and got all my prescriptions filled this past Thursday so I already have them at home. I was sent home with 50 Heparin injections to do on myself along with a slew of other things to take post surgery. Fun. Luckily I only live about 4 miles from the surgery center... whew! Keep us informed about what is going on with ya & thanks for the note! Talk to you soon!

Wow Jason, 50 Heparin injections! I thought I was going to have to take Lovenox injections after my surgery but my doctor said I didn't need them. I had a Heparin injection before my surgery and a Lovenox after my surgery and the good news is that they don't hurt at all. I didn't even feel the needles, just a slight burning sensation from the actual injection. I've heard it's because there aren't too many nerves in that part of the stomach. You are lucky that you live so close to where you're having surgery. That will make it so much more comfortable for you when it's time for you to go home. Do you know how long you will be staying in the hospital?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
