Hi all,

I'm almost one month post bad, first fill coming on Aug 28th. I'm down 27 lbs so I am thrilled but am wondering about returning to coffee with caffeine. I've been off caffeine for a month and don't drink soda for many reasons but was wondering if a cup of non-decaf coffee once a day would hurt.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Jacksdad. I too am almost one month out. I have been drinking one cup of coffee with caffeine each day. Before being banded i was a huge coffee drinker. Usually by the pot. So the coffee intake has gone down, but dont know if its ok to have that one cup per day.

hey there, my doc said it was ok to have the coffee. Just don't be drinking a pot of it a day but 1 to 2 cups a day was fine. Don't know you might ask you doctor and see. I am only 2 weeks post op so I guess everyone is different. Congratulations on being down 27lbs. I am down 10 which isn't much but it is ok. Good Luck

you should probably ask your surgeon. The nutritionist had it on the NEVER EVER NEVER list at my bariatric center but when I pinned her down as to WHY...(took me asking more than once) she finally answered "because it is an appetite stimulant for some people". Well, it doesn't stimulate mine, so it was immediately put back in the mix; coffee in the AM and my unsweetened iced tea the rest of the day. I DO get my 64 oz of Water in though.

RM...I used to have the never ending tea cup and it never stimulated my appetite either! It's sad that everything else made my hungry however, the rain, wind, sun...lol or I wouldn't be the size I am now!

I never heard that it can dehydrate you, and when I drank 10 cups a day I still needed a Water pill ...have you heard of that?

Yes, coffee and tea can have a "diuretic effect"...not for this chickie!

I think caffeine is one of those buzz words (oh ha ha LOL)

that is in/out/in/out

I can go without it (and have) for weeks on end with no ill effects. no headache, not meaner than normal, etc. OR I can drink a gallon of tea a day with no ill effects. I think it doesn't impact some of us. I just like it, and I'm glad I can (and do) keep drinking my tea! :(

And I had to laugh. I agree that caffeine is apparently one of the few things on earth that didn't make me hungry...or should I say, hungrier?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
