:smile:I just had the surgery on Friday August 7, 2009 and am back at work today Monday 8/10/09- they had some problems with me as I had some severe scar tissue from prior surgeries, so they had to cut that away- so it took a little over two hours for the procedure. I have eight small incisions and the pain is quite managable.... the worst part is the gas that settles in the neck and shoulder- lots of walking helps. I got home from my surgery about 3:30 and walked my dogs with the help of my mom putting their leashes on- it hurt a bit the first couple of days to bend over. Hardly had to use my pain medicine and feel overall really great- good luck and don't be scared- this is the begining of a new life for you and welcome it!!! I can't wait to see what this surgery has in store us!

You will be fine no matter the degree of pain you may experience. Know that everyone's recovery varies from person to person. I noticed the post prior to mine that said she had surgery on Friday and was back to work on Monday...there is NO way I would have been able to do that and not because I had such difficulty, but because I was truly in pain and took my pain meds for a week or more. On top of it, I found it very difficult to find a comfortable position to sleep as I am a stomach/side sleeper. One side felt fine the other felt like my insides were going to fall out. The shoulder pain is quite uncomfortable. Two weeks in, I was happy about my decision, however, I cannot say I felt this way during my first week after surgery. I certainly second guessed my decision. Now, 11 months later, 63 lbs lost, I am thrilled! I say all of this to say, it's worth any amount of pain you must endure, it's but for a short season. Good luck and many blessings during this journey.

hang in there its not that bad.... I was terribly frightened when I went in for my surgery. It was not bad. I had absolutely no complications and I feel like my surgery was a success and I'm still making progress.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
