Hair Loss at an alarming rate - I need help!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 4/21, so it has been about 3.5 months out. I am losing my hair at an alarming rate. I mean every morning when I wash my hair, I can see a bunch of hair (at the hair catcher thingy) and everywhere in the house. I am the only girl in the house so I know that it is my hair.

I am eating the right amount of Protein and mainly all food group (not much on fruits though). I have heard it can cause from the anesthesia; however, when will it stop? What can I do in the mean time to help this?

Thank you so much,

Anissa

hair is on a 3 month cycle. Hairloss will start around 3 months, end within another 3 months and start to regrow within another 3 months. That is, as long as you keep getting in your Protein and Vitamins.

Mine was just as bad, my drain was actually clogged by my hair twice! My doctor assured me that none of his patients have gone bald or had peramanent hairloss and that I would recover and he was right, I did.

If you are getting your 60G of Protein and taking a good daily there is not a whole lot more you can do but try to stay calm and give it time. You can try adding Biotin (Hair Skin and Nails Vitamin). If your hairloss is due to a deficiency in B-Vitamins and Biotin it will help. Even if it is not, it is good for your hair and will help it grow back nice and healthy.

Hi. I went through the same thing. It seems to me that it lasted about 3 or 4 months. I was eating right and took the Biotin. Nothing seemed to help. It does stop and new hair grows in. Good luck. Becky

Update- After using Nioxin products for a month, I can say that it is improving. I still losing hair and it has decreased a whole lot...even my husband is happy not that he worried about me going bald but he doesn't have to vaccume the bathroom everyday now :-)

What exact products have you been using- what's Nioxin? Biotin? I'm still shedding although it's slowing down some (5 mo. out today). I'd like to get something that helps it grow back healthy...my hair is very fine, but there used to be a lot of it.

Nioxin is Shampoo and conditioner for people who have hair lost whether due to chemo, surgery or etc. You can find it at almost all the hair salon place. I've heard that Sallys has their own line which is a lot cheaper than the brand name.

For Biotin, it is a supplement for hair, skin and nails. You can find it at most drugstores. I bought mine from Walmart about $3.

HTH.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
