Feeling Discouraged and down...

Recommended Posts

 Hi everyone,

Just wanted to vent a bit. I thought my family was behind me in my lapband decision but now they are saying things like you can lose weight on your own, etc. I am just feeling down and scared about the approval process. I am right on the border 39.9/40 bmi so I am afraid of not getting approved. I am not sure if I have any comorbidities cause no one told me my test results from my blood workup - i.e. high cholesterol, high liver enzymes, etc...

Please pray that I get approved. I am so wanting to start this phase in my life.

Thanks for reading.

Tony, you will be in my thoughts. I'm sorry to hear your family isn't behind you in YOUR decision. Remember this is your decision, and yes it would be nice if your family was behind you in this, but ultimately YOU know what is best for you. I'm assuming you had to show that you have tried diets in the past and if you could lose the weight on your own you would have and you wouldn't be having surgery. Keep your chin up, if you can't have the support from your family you can get it here.

Good luck!

It is so difficult when someone close to you isn't supportive of this decision. I have been very fortunate and most everyone in my close circle has been behind me. But recently since I have started to show obvious weight loss one of the people in that circle has decided to turn and be negative. I know it is hard but it is your body, your mind and your spirit. You are the only one that can decide what is right for you. It is so hard to go against family but what is best for you is what counts and it feels soooooo good once you begin to lose the weight and all the doubts go away. Once that happened to me, I knew I had made the right decision no matter what anyone else thinks. And by the way, I was at BMI 34 and had no problems getting approved. Of course, it makes a difference what insurance you are with and what physical problems you have, but just hang in there and don't give up. You are so worth it!

I agree with all thats been said! And this place is a great place to come for support from like minded people.

Also, it looks like (from your ticker) that you've lost a significant amount of weight already!! Focus on that when you get discouraged and just keep on truckin'! Congrats on your weight loss so far and good luck with the approval process! Keep us updated!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support. I am going to go to a support group meeting tomorrow night as well. I have really good health insurance Anthem BCBS PPO of Va so I am hoping I will be approved. My husband doesnt communicate much but he said if it is what I want then he is all for it. I have two small kids and i want to be around for them for a long time and the rate I am going I wont be. My family all has severe diabetes and I am trying to take this as as preventative measure. I just hope and pray that I get approved and my surgery is successful without complications...

Thanks for listening...

Thanks guys,

I called my surgeons office today and asked them how long it will take for them to send my complete package into insurance... the insurance lady said well I dont have your file on my desk so let me find it... and I will call you back. She never called back ... guess I will call her tomorrow...

Such a lengthy process ....

Dont let the office staff's unresponsiveness get in the way of your success. They are only concerned with moving pile A to pile B They dont care whose file makes that move.

Followup and keep ontop of them.

Hang in there. I have been going through the process for three months, psych evaluation, sleep apnea over night test, etc etc. I too am waiting for my doctors office to send in the request for approval. The way it was explained to me by the doctors office was that they want to have all the paper work in perfect order so there will be less of a chance for the ins co to deny the request. I also have Anthem Blue Cross. I have been feeling down but when I think of all the years I have been trying to lose weight - another month I can handle - and so can you!

LastChance,

Thanks everyone for their comments... You are right lastchance, I called the drs office again today and the insurance lady said she didnt have file still. She was going to go find it... she thinks it may be with the sleep study people... why would they take my entire file? Weird but I guess they could still have it. I dont hear about my sleep study till next week so hopefully they have sent my chart back to the surgeons office.

You are so right, it makes more sense to make sure everything is in order before its sent to the insurance company. Keep in touch and let me know how you are progressing...! Good luck to everyone... i still need your prayers :) THanks...

Hello Tory,

You still have my thoughts and prayers! My doctors office had all the paper work in order and I was approved today - August 20. I know that the sleep apnea test results are important to the ins company. S0 hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
