See, I just don't know if what I am feeling is "normal"

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to all this and am still trying to work out what is "normal" for me in relation to how my body works now when I swallow food.

I had my second fill (total in band now 2mL) on Thursday just gone, and on the nurses advice I am supposed to go back on soft foods for two days after my fill.

Here I am now 4 days since the fill and have moved back to solid food (although I still keep it on the softer side), I still find that 3 or 4 bites of food is causing pain in my back. Last night I didn't recognise it for what it was (first time I experienced it) and had about an hour of bringing up very frothy saliva. The saliva only stopped when the pain went away.

Tonight I again experienced the pain but stopped eating straight away. Now the pain has gone, and I have not brought any saliva up, but have also only had two bites of food for dinner.

So, form all the experienced banders out there, I need to know whether the general consensus is that I need to go back and have some fill taken out? I mean I know that we all are supposed to be eating less with our bands, but I would think that after two fills only, and so much pain when I eat more than two bites, that can't be quite what my surgeon would be wanting me to experience, is it?

All advice appreciated.

Mandy

Have you considered making an appointment with your PCP? It may be band related but it may not. I would definitely see both your band surgeon and your PCP.

Sometimes it takes longer to get back to your normal diet. I know from my own experience my last fill I wasn't able to really eat for about 7 days. If things don't get better for you please check back with your doc take things slow our bands can be tricky at times.

Hi there - glad you are asking these questions!

I would recommend that you stay with full liquids/mushie foods for another couple of days. When you start to add solids again, GO SLOWLY. At the very first sign of any distress, stop eating and consciously try to relax.

I'd say if you continue to have this issue after 10 days, consider going in for a slight unfill.

If it gets WORSE it could mean you've irritated your stoma with trying to get solids in too fast.

If at any time you are having trouble getting liquids down, call your doctor. I am amazed at how many people will go days without being able to get liquids down and become dangerously dehydrated. DO NOT let that happen!

Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
