iPhone/iPod Touch Applications

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I thought it would be nice to have a place to share/recommend great iPhone/iPod Touch Applications that you are using to assist you on your journey.

I have been listening to the Weight Loss application by Dr Andrew Johnson every night before I go to sleep, or sometimes I just lay down for a little while on a Sunday afternoon and listen to the program.

It is basically a hypnosis type application to deter you from wanting to make poor food choices - I didn't think it would work, but week 1 of my pre op diet has just been too easy, I haven't even really craved anything bad.

The real test came today when a friend invited me to the movies, as I'm a sucker for a popcorn and coke - BUT - I walked into the Cinema and for some reason I could barely even SMELL the popcorn (my friend could smell it as strong as anything) and when I did get a whiff, I was not even SLIGHTLY interested in it... which now has me thinking, perhaps listening to the program every night IS helping.

Anyway, I recommend the application to anyone who is having issues with cravings.

Do you have any great iPhone/iPod applications that are helping you?

It's called "Lose It!" by FitNow and it's a free app.

I looks like an orange bathroom scale.

Itunes: App Store/Healthcare & Fitness/Lose It!

You can also go to their website, and download the app there:

Karen,

Maybe we have a different App Store in Australia? I swear to god it isn't there. I've just swapped to a new computer and haven't transferred my iTunes etc across yet, so I'll look into it on the weekend and see if I can get it via the website.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
