Lapband 09-07-07 prolapse 08-03-09

Recommended Posts

Hi I am a very happy lapband patient with over 100 pounds lost in less than two years.I have never had any problems with my band until July 4 2009. I went to a friends party July 4 2009 and ate a little here and there and had a wonderful time.BUT the next day I did my usual thing and at the end of the day around 6 p.m. I got sick and threw up everything from that day and the day before.Figuring I had over done it the day before I left it at that.Well the next day the same thing I ate a little here and there and at the end of the day got sick and threw up everything from that day.I waited a couple days and continued this same pattern and made an appointment with my lapband doctor. He stated maybe I had blocked my port so we drained my band.I was ok with that and went home.I was ok for a couple days then I started doing the same thing again after a few days called the doctor and he called me in some medicine for acid reflux.I tried this a few days but when I got sick at the end of the day and threw up all the medicine as well as the stuff I had ate all day I made another visit to the doctor and he was very concerned that I may have an ulcer and put me on Carafate and told me if that did not work I would have to have an upper GI and see what was going on.Needless to say I could not keep the medicine down and I started running a fever so I called the doctor after hours on a Friday July 31,2009 and he told me I had to be admitted in the hospital.I live 2 and half hours from hospital so me and my Fiance' drove to hospital and I was admitted to hospital. My doctor was out of town until Monday so another doctor in his office took care of me until he came back.I had chest x-rays and blood work done early Saturday morning after being admitted in hospital. The doctor that was on call for my doctor was concerned about my gall bladder because of where my pain was located so he ordered an ultrasound.I had that done Saturday as well as an Upper GI. My Upper GI showed my lapband was completely blocked. So I was on nothing by mouth until Monday. On Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. my doctor came to room at the hospital and told me my gall bladder had to be taken out and he would look at my band while he was in there and depending on the situation he would take it out or fix it.On Monday August 3 2009 at 5:30 p.m. I went in for surgery and my gall bladder was taken out and my band had slipped and the doctor completely unhooked it but left it in there.I had a spot on my liver that the doctor sent off for biopsy and it came back negative for any cancer.I had told the doctor if he could save the band I did not want it taken out unless it was necessary. My doctor felt it was not necessary to take it out but it was needed to unhook it completely and let my GI track rest for 2-3 months and then we can go back in and put band back on.

Do I think it is worth it? YES!!! If I weighed 300 pounds and had diabetes and heart problems I could possibly end up without legs or on dialysis FOREVER. So this is a minor set back that can easily be fixed.

The DOCTORS and STAFF at MEDICAL CITY HOSPITAL in DALLAS TEXAS and DR.BELL and DR.LANE go over and beyond the call of duty.

Look at it this way I would still have to have had my gall bladder out so it was two in one kind of thing.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
