Pre-Op Diet...How Much Did You Lose?

Recommended Posts

I'm on a 1000 calorie pre-op diet which consists of 3 shakes and a 400 calorie meal. It's currently day six for me and I have yet to consume 1000 calories. The thing that is bugging me is that I've only lost about 3 pounds (it fluctuates from day to day, so between 2 and 3). Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I have surgery in a week and I don't want to have a fatty liver to mess things up.

My shakes are the Muscle Milk light (160 cal) and my 400 calorie meal consists of lean meat (usually turkey or chicken) and vegetables. I do drink more than 64 oz of Water every day so I'm not sure where the problem is.

I lost a stone in ten days on my preop, but mine was a (strcit) very low calorie diet, eating small portions, rather than a liquid diet. Remember though, the point isn't so much to lose weight on the preop diet, its to shrink your liver to make surgery safer.

What exactly is a stone in pounds. I am assuming 10, but not sure. I heard it on TV as well. Can you enlighten me?

I have lost 8 pounds. I am surprised because I am not only due for my TOM, but I have had a bite or two of other foods everyday during the pre-op diet. I would have a bite or two of chicken, 1/4 cup cottage cheese (low-fat), or a cut up cucumber with salt and pepper. This would be just to help me feel a little fuller and so I wouldn't make a worse choice. My doctor required 2 shakes and a lean cuisine/smart one or a low calorie meal between 300-400 calories. Some of the meals I ate ranged from 180-230 calories, so I figured 50 calories of cottage cheese or 2 ounces of chicken wouldn't make that big of a difference. Hope I'm right. A little nervous about having a fatty liver. Surgery tomorrow at 11 a.m.!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
