I was banded on 7/9/09 and have already had 1 fill. Now on an average how long between meals is normal just about 4wks out with 1 fill already.

I have a new job that has a no tolerace policy for being absent so I have put off my next fill until NOV as it will be then that I have a day off during the week. Right now I can go about 4 hrs without my tummy telling me I am hungry, how does that sound?

At the office I seemed to have managed to get my meals in about the same time daily.

I would very much appreciate any input you might have on the time frame in which you can go between meals.

Thanks

Michele

Hi Michele,

I can go about 4 hours in between meals myself. Bring a healthy, low calorie snack with you each day just in case.

My doc is adamant about NO SNACKS! Its taken a while but I'm compliant!

How long I can go depends on what I eat. If I eat something that is likely to take longer to go through my pouch, like steak (well done!) or white meat chicken, I can easily go 6 hours. If I eat something softer (baked fish) or more "mushie-esque" (like a bean burrito or a taco) then I get hungry earlier...around 4 hours.

Carbs and blood sugar/insulin may play a role (although I'm not diabetic) but generally the foods that stick around in the pouch longer=longer time between meals.

Hey michelle,

I am still 2 weeks out from my first fill, and I have something about every 2 hours. which I am sure is not really the greatest thing. but I keep my calories low. I only have about 900-1200 calories a day. I am also still eating a lot of the mushie stage food, even though I am aloud to have regular food. I am just slowly adding new foods each day.

I think that everyone is different on this. My Dr says to only eat when you are hungry. When I was first banded I felt like I was always hungry and could easily eat every 4 hrs. However after my last fill. I am up to 6.2cc's I stopped eating Breakfast. I no longer wake up hugry. I eat lunch at about 11 and supper at about 7. So I am able to go 8 hrs in between meals now. There are days I do have a light snack but my Dr says this is fine as well, as long as you only eat when hungry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
