Slipped, now unfilled... could it go back to normal?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded now for almost two years. I lost about 60 lbs however about 5 months ago I started having terrible cases of acid reflux (enought that I couldn't sleep a full night). I went to a fill doctor and she unfilled me only .5 cc (which she thought would ease the pain). As it turns out, 4 months later I was still vomiting at night with terrible acid refux, however a terrible cough began and that is when I went in to get the band checked out via laproscopy.

The doctor told me that I had a slip and that 50% of the time i will go back on it own. I am on a liquid diet for 30 days (day 7 today) as they have completely unfilled me and was wondering if there is anyone out there that has had this happen to them and the band went back to its original position?

I am just so desperate for advise and want to be optimistic however from what I have been reading, almost everyone has to get another surgery.

Please respond with any adivse...

Regards, Nicole

I hope it works out for you Nicole.

I started having night coughs a few weeks ago and it would wake me out of sleep; I would be choking and eventually running to the bathroom and throwing up in the sink sliminess and tasting what I had ate last. I can't handle it anymore. I can't sleep laying flat. I am now sleeping upright in bed. It is not comfortable at all.

I went to my dr 2 weeks ago and he took an x-ray and said the band hadn't slipped. I wonder if an x-ray could really see it or not. He suggested if it didn't go away, to go back to my normal dr and get a prescription for reflux meds. I don't think that will work though because I have been taking Zantac and it has been doing nothing.

I hope this 'slippage' issue doesn't bring an end to our bands. For the last 2 years I have tried really hard to work with my band to be successful. I don't understand how the band could slip so easy? It seems to be around 2 years on everyone here that I have read. It's weird. Almost like a rejection after 2 years.

I hope everything works out for you. Can you recall what if anything would have caused the slippage?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
