Pain at port site and swelling

Recommended Posts

Help! I have alot of pain at my port site suddenly and some swelling around it. I thought maybe at first that I was stuck because my stomach was hurting and I felt kinda strange. But its my port site. I haven't ate anything different or done anything (that I can remember) that would have hurt me. I'm 4 weeks post-op. I do remember sneezing very hard yesterday a couple of times and it hurt. Would that maybe tug my band and make me sore? Thanks for any imput and I do plan on calling my doc today. Thanks!

What you eat will not affect your port. The port site incision takes a long time to heal and you might have moved a certain way or lifted something that caused irritation to the incision or even that sneeze yesterday could be the culprit. It takes a minimum of six weeks to heal, maybe a little longer so the pain is not so unusual. If you have bleeding or any other discharge or the swelling does not go down go see your doctor to rule out infection. Otherwise, take it easy and keep the area clean and you should be fine.

If in doubt, call your doctor.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
