Oh Amanda, without a doubt you are huge inspiration to me! I am a bigtime youtubie and I loved yours! When I lose 1/2 my goal weight, I intend to shout it to world as well. But you will need to get a little thick-skinned about the kooks, they are everywhere. Don't let crazy peeps rain on your victory, you have so much to be proud of and you never know, your youtube may be just the thing to encourage someone to get banded that are in the same place we were in the beginning. How kewl would that be!

Hi to all. I was banded September 23 in Belgium and am now down 47 lbs. I am so happy.

Have had three fills and had to go back for a small unfill because I was too tight. So, I'm looking for the sweet spot very soon.

Congratulations to everyone.

47 lbs is awesome, what size band do you have, how much fill? Congrats!

Hi All,

I was banded on Sept 1 and am down 40 lbs since Sept 1(hurray!). However, my weight loss has slowed down and I am increasing my appetite for easy-to-eat sweets. I have not yet had a fill - my doctor put in 4.5 cc when she put the lapband in and said that I had lost weight so she thought I was ok without a fill for now. I have trouble with some foods and it seems to be unpredictable when I will have trouble. My problem is - I think I want a fill to keep my weight loss moving but I am afraid my doc will say "no" if I tell her I have had trouble (PBing) occasionally. Anyone else have this dilemma? Thanks!

My doc gave me fills even though I was PB'ing and thats because she recognzied i was PB'ing because of eating too fast so do what I did. take out a stopwatch (online; iphone whereever) and keep yourself honest... chew for 30 seconds; wait 30 seconds then take your next bite... see if you are still pb'ing.

Thanks HMARKO - you're exactly right. I do PB when I eat too fast or too big bites. I will try timing myself.

I noticed we had almost the same amount of weight to lose and we have almost the same amount left. I'll keep watching your stats for inspiration! Good luck

MelsPage,,, I'm glad that you found this site, it has really helped me a lot through this journey. I was banded on Oct. 21st and last week got my 3rd fill. My doc put's a little in at surgery and says that sometimes that's all someone needs. I wasn't one of those people, lol. I felt JUST like you are,,, I have the band, but can still eat like I always did, with the occasional sticking incident,,, usually caused because I ate bread that I knew I shouldn't, or ate too fast. But now with my 3rd fill,,, I'm feeling what others refer to as their sweet spot. Although I will say, for me, the sweet spot is bitter sweet. Like you, I'm not 100 percent sure if I'm feeling full or if I'm feeling a possible sticking incident coming on. I can only eat a small amount without feeling that feeling. I have asked my doctor in detail how I feel and I know everyone is different, but he did say that it won't feel like the same full feeling that we use to get. So when I have those feelings now that are almost like a stuck feeling,,, I try to imagine where my band is, where the new part of my tummy is and how much food I've eaten. SO, I'm left with thinking the feelings I'm now having are my new full feeling. Does that makes sense?

I have a 10cc band. My weight before the post op diet was 298,,, I lost 17 pounds on the 2 week liquid diet and about 17 to 18 pounds since surgery on Oct. 21st. Not a lot of weight compared to some, but I feel like slow and steady will get me to my goal:-) With that said, I've lost about 4 more pounds since last Tuesday when I got my 3rd fill,,, I now have 7cc's of a 10cc band. I'm definately feeling the band and I now know why they say it's SO important to eat all the Protein first,,, because you can't eat much and like yesterday,,, I think I only got in 20 or so grams of protein,,, I didn't notice till the end of the day that some of what I ate had no protein.

Good Luck in the journey,,, for me, I can tell it's going to be a hard journey, but I have my little lapband friend along for the ride and as hard and frustrating as it's going to be,,, it's so worth it in the end:-)

I think everyone's idea of a sweet spot is different. Mine is when I can eat 1/2-1 cup of food and feel full about 4 hours. That is ideal to me. 3 meals a day without snacking.

Hi Dee,

Yes that helps alot! Thank you! Right now it feels like I can eat whatever I want. That bothers me and I don't understand why all of you guys seem to have much more in your bands than I do! My surgeon does not fill the band when he does the surgery at all. My first fill was at the end of october and he put 2 cc's in, I had lost 20 lbs by that point. I went back mid december for my 2nd fill, having only lost 1 pound between October and December and he found that 1 cc had stayed in the band?? So he too that out and tried to put 3 cc's in to get me to 4 total but I couldn't get the Water down so he removed 1 cc putting me at a totall of 3 in the band! I'm so confused by that though because, swallowing water at 4 cc's was impossible, yet at 3 cc's the day after my fill I was starving every 2 hours and felt NO restriction! Then I saw the dietician earlier this month and again...only 1 pound since December??? Hmmmm....I think I'm going to talk to him about it at my next appt! Can 1 cc really make that big of a difference?

I am so happy to have found this thread! I really needed to see that I am not as far off the mark as I thought! What a blessing!!

Melissa,

Maybe you have a 10CM 4cc band..like mine. It sounds like it.

Hi all..

I have been MIA awhile, but have been keeping upwith all of you. I have only lost about 22 pounds since my surgery, most of which, was pre-op and post-op. I feel so discouraged. I have had two fills so far, and after the second fill, I have no restriction. I can eat pretty much anything! I have not had anything "stuck" or had any trouble with any food since the second fill which supooosedly put me at 3.2CC in my 4CC badn. It feels like less than before...Is that possible??? She did draw out the original fill amount and then "re-filled"?? I dunno. Maybe it has slipped?? or stretched??? I thought the weight would come off and its not. If I could diet and excercize on my own, I would not have gotten the band in the first place. Forgive my rant. Any good advice?

Thanks all-

K~

Talking about 1cc making a difference,,, after my first 2 fills, my doc will only do a half of a cc at a time. I feel totally different with my 1/2 cc now. I felt nothing with my first 2 fills,,, perhaps only a slight sticking here and there if I didn't chew good or ate too fast. Now,,, I'm having to be SO careful.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
