September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

I am officially more than half way to goal. A quick look on this thread and it seems most are half way there, whether they needed to loose 80 or 180 lbs. I guess the first 3 months or so are the honeymoon period where it just comes of maybe?

Hope everyone is healthy and happy. Keep working towards your goals and keep your faith.

Still no Onderland and probably because I want it so bad, but oh well. I will get there very soon. I know! Went for another fill today and now I'm at a total of 7.3 and man can I feel the difference. I hope this is it because the injection to my port actually hurt today for the first time. I also have noticed during the last month that I am starting to have hair fall out. I have plenty of it so I can't tell a big difference but I do shed alot, but it's suppose to slow down in a few months so I hope. Don't want to have to buy a wig. Well how is everyone else?

Amanda I've been stuck also but I did get to 199 now I'm not budging. I wonder why the injection hurt today? Did someone else do it? I never have problems. I actually did not get a fill on this month's appt (if you remember dec 1 overfilled; dec 14 .3 of .7 taken out bringing me to 5.6 cc on a 10 cc band); and I had a strong feeling that I wouldn't get a fill. Both the doc and NP were in agreement. We'll see how it goes but I think I'm at a good point.

On the Hair loss I have thin hair and shed typically. I think it has gotten worse the person who will know best is my hairdresser who hasn't seen me in a year! She will notice changes if there are any.

I notice the hair loss but I started Biotin right at the time of surgery so the loss isn't noticeable because it seems to thicken the hair.

I've done okay in terms of weight loss but have to start exercising more. Between the rain and cold I have backslid on my Couch to 5k program.

I hit Onederland this week and am so happy. I want to NEVER see 200 on the scale again. My non scale victory was trying on old formals (Mardi Gras season coming up) and one that I had to actually get "wrapped" for (the seaweed wrap, suck you dry to lose a couple of inches) was actually so big I could take it off and on without unzipping it.

Amazing. Very happy with my band.

Chapamar - what form is the biotin is it a pill (I just can't do any more pills) I am barely taking what I am supposed to. Congrats on Onderland and getting into the skinny clothes!

Minimeme congrats on your halfway goal - I think many of us may be half way there. It would be great if we got a spreadsheet together w/ our fills; size band; and weightloss much like the challenge s/s but I have not time nor do I know how to figure that out

Spreadsheet for Sexy Septembers!

Ok so I took a nap earlier and I figured out how to do the s/s sharing!

If you go on this link you can add yourself (so far you will only see me on it)... no need to save it saves itself.

I always thought it would be good to see who had what fills, band, how the progress is etc.

Let me know what you think

Well I think its a fantastic idea. We have all been through this journey together. I don't think I would have done nearly as well without all of your support and encouragement. Sharing info with other banders who are at the same spot in this journey has been wonderful! I can't access the spreadsheet from work because of our firewall but I will add my info tonight. Great job!

Hey Amanda, In what way does your fill feel different? I was just curious as to the amount of food that keeps you full now, compared to before?

I haven't had the hair issues, but you are losing so fast, maybe that is why:confused:

I am still on liquids and I have to drink slower because it will start to back up and drinking a liquid also takes my hunger away, which is also new. The weight loss could possibly be the culprit but I eat around 1200 calories a day and exercise 4-5 days a week, not doing anything extreme to lose this fast. I only exercise 30-60 minutes the days that I exercise, so who knows?

Congratulations! Mardi Gras in Mobile! Wish I could be there. Haven't been back to Mobile during Mardi Gras in 10 years! Also can I say Roll Tide Roll!

I went to the spreadsheet and it wouldn't let me input anything. I signed in and all. So who knows? Any ideas?

Geez Amanda, I don't think I want to be so tight that I can only drink liquids. I get tired of the Protein Shakes so fast! I drink one of the Iospure Alpine Punch each day, it tastes like the punch gaterade, but I don't like the liquid thing. I haven't had any restriction yet, so I don't know how that feels. Now I'm skeered of asking for more fills LOL

Amanda let me go check or I'll ask one of the other posters who have done this - I copied the feb challenge s/s and just changed things around.

Dee - I am with you - i was overfilled and choking at night and this last time I went they left me alone no fills they thought I lost enough in dec 10 lbs two weeks from the overfill; and then another 2 lbs (which included some regain when unfilled).

I was happy to not get a fill so if I lose 3 lbs this month we will fix it next month... being too tight was NO fun

Amanda on the too tight topic - how many days are you on liquids now? you foaming at all? How much was your fill again?

I have to do liquids for 5 days after a fill only, believe me I am not that tight either and I don't want to be.

Amanda no foaming, slime or pbs then ur ok. I have another question because I wonder about this when I was too tight - I couldn't drink anything before sleeping it would come back up and badly (choking). Do you have to follow this rule? I don't know if that is because I was too tight or sufficiently restricted???

Many say not to eat or drink 3 hours before sleeping.

They have us on liquids 2 days but if its past 3 they generally say we should come in for an unfill. That last time I tried to hang on for two weeks but nope - needed that unfill. I think I am good now. I'm tight enough where if I eat Proteins I get full on about 4 oz... yesterday I forced some veggies in a couple hours later. I have been skippimg those.. I tried arugula that really fills you up in bites!

Amanda / Dee - I fixed the formatting on the spreadsheet is there anything else you think we should add. See already I find this interesting. Because we all talk about various things but I never can keep track of the percentage of the band filled or where we are in that regard... and is interesting how everyone is diff... like dee and I have same band but at 5 cc's she has no restriction.

Dee when is your next fill... You know as I think on it.. I was at 5.2 and not that much restriction that month I lost 2 lbs... THAT was why she upped me to 5.9 w/ a .7cc increase and that was way too much... so from 5.2 to 5.6 made a big difference (after I got some unfill)... and on my checkup I did not get any more fills. You would be surprised at how little will make a difference.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
