September 2009 Band Date

It's funny. I'm just on my second fill, and have only 3 ccs in a 10-cc band, and I'm PB'ing at least once a day! Yesterday I even had problems with very mooshy tuna with mayo. I'm wondering if I need a tiny bit unfilled. I am losing more, but I don't know if it's worth it.

The restriction from my fills only seem to last about a week before disappearing. My doctor had me switch to using baby spoons this last fill until I get programmed into eating small bites and it does seem to be helping. Maybe you should just wait another few days and just concentrate on eating tiny bits and chewing well.

I am definetely ready for another fill myself. I have restriction but still feel I eat more than I should and am hungrier earlier tan I should. Going to call now to see if I can get a fill at the end of the month. Hopefully it will be the last.

I haven't been on here in a long time, I stay really busy at work and with my 21 month old!! Everyone seems to be doing really well! Happy Holidays! I have an appointment today for a fill, I hope I get one, I didn't get to last time because I had lost 7 pounds in two weeks, I know that didn't happen this time due to Thanksgiving, and I am at the point where I am starving again..lol! Talk to you all later and hopefully I can keep up better!

Hello Girlfriends,

Stopping in to report I am totally restricted after my 3rd fill. I went from 6 ccs to 7 ccs in my 10cc band. No conservative fills for me!

Anyway, it is very tough to eat regular foods without taking very small bites and eating very slowly. I need to work on this! Last night I had just 2 bites of turkey and cheese from the inside of a sandwich (no bread) and started sliming and felt stuck. Probably would not have been a big issue if I ate slower and smaller!

Not surprisingly, I am losing again after a 2 week stall. Down to 201, so 33 pounds lost. Onderland is just inches away.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I am using a stop watch. I chew 20 times and then start the clock and wait 30 seconds. It has helped a lot! It makes me focus on it. I haven't had a stuck episode at all though I am having other problems due to a cold they are still not major. MY saliva is coming up in bubble like a baby - its not thick and its like in tablespoons. They are letting me ride it out with mushies. On phone/email w/ NP daily right now he thinks i can get away without unfill... and I can eat lemon sole so that is part solid. The post nasal drip he thinks is causing the froth. Such a variety of responses we get!!!

you could be pb'ing because you are eating too fast. The more restriction you have the more you need to eat slower I am learning this the hard way. do my stopwatch trick. see if it helps. Does it happen in the first few bites? 3 cc's wouldn't be giving you a lot of restriction so its probably from eating too fast.

hate to disagree with you, but I have only 2.8 cc in a 10 cc band... The amount of saline/fill you have has nothing to do wtih the type of restriction you have; it varies for everyone! I too have trouble eating mushies at this point, but hmarko is right.. the slower you eat, the better off you are! Good luck to all and God Bless!

ok my fellow bandstrs, I was banded Sept 22, by my first post op I was down 17 lbs, I'm on my second fill up to 4cc now and I gained a pound before my second fill. I 'm getting discouraged a bit but not alot, I work out 5 days a week, clock in 7 miles a day on average with this great pedometer that downloads to my computer and tracks it for only $30, but I am wearing clothes I haven't been able to get into for the last 2 years, I have no restriction, my shoulder will ache to tell me I"m full but the scale isn't budgeting and when I gained a pound I was ashamed......I'm trying to stay focused any suggestions? I will keep working out, any suggestions on the eating, I can eat like a 6 inch sub at a sitting well Icould after first fil not so much after second, I dont get anyother fill till Mid January, any ideas?

bostonlady: yes you're losing slower than some but you are still well within the averages for wt.loss. I struggled as well when I went nearly a month with only 1.5# loss ... I seem to drop on big chunks these days.. nothing for weeks then 5-6# loss. I think I hit that big wall at about the point you are. Like you I too work out a lot and hard as well. I tried to focus on the fact that during that biggest period of no wt. loss I went from my jeans being loose to being able to pull them off without unzipping them. Sounds like you're doing the same thing... feeling great, firming up and losing inches but not seeing it on the scale. It's frustrating and I know it's hard... but focus on how you feel and how your clothes feel. We're all a slave to that scale though..I hate when you wake up feeling like for sure you dropped- jump on the scale and you have not. it can ruin a whole day...but don't let it. I give myself a pep talk... try something on that I know was tight last time I tried it on and it always makes me feel better when the cloths prove the scale a liar!

I just had my 2nd fill and was grumbling a bit that I thought I should be losing faster based on tha calories in/out principle. My doctor pointed out that losing 5-8% a month is what he considers to be good... you're well within that range. I also thought that you lose 80% of the wt.you're going to lose in the 1st 8-12 months and that myth was dispelled as well. My dr. and pac both said that for agb... people lose slower and cont. to lose often over a 3 year period. I think most of us, even though we say differently out loud... think we should lose more like a gastric bypass patient... it's hard to not do that comparison.

You are doing great though.. keep it up and stay off the scale. Are you doing measurements? It's never to late to start doing that.

Hey there everyone, just wanted to check in and give an update. I got my fill last week. So I had 2 cc initially and got another 2 cc so now I have 4 cc's yea!. I've got restriction, not too much just enough for now I can still eat anything just feel tight in the chest area right away and some times before I even eat. The Doc says I don't go back for 3 months so I'm gonna have to work this fill until March.

Hope everyone is doing good, I don't see many post... remember it's all about the support.

Hello Friends,

I lost 3 pounds this week! That brought me into Onederland, yay! And I even survived a holiday cocktail party and still lost weight...

So I am going to say this is definitely my sweet spot, as I told HMarko. It is just about perfect - I am never hungry, I can eat just about 1/2 cup of solid food, not much sliming as long as I chew well. Can't believe how little I eat without being hungry! Wow.

So I have 7 ccs in a 10 cc band - sounds like more than most of you. Its working!

Good luck on continuing successes!

Coloradomom - CONGRATS!!! YAY!!!

So excited - your almost there!

Bostonlady - hang in there - start measuring muscle weighs more than fat. I had those days too where nothing moved and things were looser.

I am losing too - but because I'm overfilled! down to 203 - 7lbs since my fill 2 weeks ago. May be going for an unfill though this week. When my nose isn't stuffed up I feel better.

Saw my PCP & officially started my 6 month supervised diet 07/26/24. She just told me to eat less carbs & sugar, use the air fryer and not fry my foods in grease, and to try to walk 30 minutes 3 days a week & if I can't do that (and I cannot), to walk 10 minutes daily. Told me to walk fast enough that my heart rate is raised.  She didn't give me a number as far as calories though. A year or so ago I was doing low carb/sugar free and keeping my calories at 1800 or below. She said I should up my cals to 2000 at that time, so that's what I'm shooting for now.
Hubby walked with me today. He's in pretty bad shape so I was surprised he wanted to. We walked down the gravel road at a pretty good pace (for us LOL). 10 minutes walking and my heart rate was 115bps according to my Fitbit and 125bps according to his pulsometer. Either way, it was elevated and I was breathing hard. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a start. We'll do it again tomorrow. 😁
I should be hearing from the surgeon soon. She said if I didn't, to call him next week. Since I HAVE to do the 6 month diet & that's going to put me into January by the time it's done, I'm hoping the surgeon will let me do all my testing in January. I don't want to do it all now and have my deductible get met, only to have to pay the deductible again in January or February for my surgery. Praying that things go the way I hope. 🙏
