Surgery tommorow.. struggling yesterday and today with the last couple of days of liquid diet.. started to think its messing with my head. I felt really sad/angry/hopeless last night and wanted to eat. Thankfully my family helped me work through it. I decided that I alway used to let the "mental hunger" win and I am not letting her win this time. But I never realized how many f***ing KFC, Burger King, pizza Hut, etc.. commercials there are. I just have to leave the room when they are on..

So anyway surgery tommorow and I cant wait! I have lost 15 lbs in these last ten days and I fit into my old jeans so thats been nice. Im sure I will start to get a little more nervous as the day goes on.. I will definetly check in later

Looking forward to a healthy and happy life. Have not taken any of my diabetic medications since I returned home. Had been on meds for 4 years prior.

Amanda- I hope your children are feeling better and that you don't catch it! My daughter went with me to MX for my surgery and we just got home late last night - but she went back to Athens,Ga where she lives and then called me this morning saying she had been up sick since 5am. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I didnt catch anything from her!

Good luck!

They are doing better today and I haven't been sick, so that's good. I hope you don't get sick either, hopefully your daughter feels better soon.

I was just wondering who is having surgery tomorrow: Sept 14? I'm scheduled first thing in the AM. I have to be at the hospital at 6am and am scheduled for a 7am procedure. How is everyone holding up that's scheduled for tomorrow? I'm freaking out a little. I never did entirely quit smoking...(however I've cut WAY down). I told my doc and he said that it slows healing, but he was still going to operate..

Also, is anyone sure about the whole magnesium citrate thing? Are we supposed to take it the day before surgery, or two days before, or both?

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow.

Good Luck! Never had to take the Mag Citrate so Don't know. You will be fine.

Hi everyone! You are all in my thoughts and for those of you who have surgery tomorrow no worries you will do just fine!

So, I am now 5 days post op. Couldn't even think about food , had a difficult time even getting down sips of the shake, then today I don't know what happened but I blew it.

I had slow cooked a roast overnight for my family and friends to eat during the Cowboys game today and my absolute favorite thing about roast is not the meat or veggies , its dipping slightly buttered bread into the gravy until its drenched. I ate half a slice . yes it was soggy and liquidy but omg what have I done? How was it possible for me to eat this? Yes, I was stuffed afterwards and no I did not have any issues tummy/band wise with it. I am so upset with myself! It took me 3 years to mentally decide to do this and here I go partaking in one of my previous bad habits. I was doing so well too, I didn't even have cravings for anything prior to this. There are people who are desperately trying to get banded and here I am blessed with the band and I abuse it. :)

Don't beat yourself up about it. We all have our days. Just keep going and you will do this. Nobody's perfect.

Guys its not so much the food that is a problem but you don't want to make yourselves sick. Take it slow its probably only a week to two away that you can eat the food but I don't mean to lecture but for me the risk of a band slippage or erosion is too real to take chances w/ 'overtaxing' the band w/ too much food. I'm sorry if that is coming across as a mom or teacher but I have good intentions and your well beings at heart :)

You have come this far - you can do the extra time that it takes to go to normal food.

the mental hunger is a big thing that is very real. While on liquid do you know how many times I stopped myself from reaching for a choc covered pretzel or other stuff at work? Just out of habit. Good luck on the surgery I think it is today!!

hmarko....interesting, so we were operated at the same time (you are at 2pm on the east coast, I am at approx 11 am on the west coast) My surgery lasted approx. 1h and 45 minutes. My Doctor also fixed the hiatal hernia, I was not even aware that I had one.

I am glad to hear that you were not nauseous at all, I felt really bad. Especially during the night. I thought that I had to vomit around 3 AM, walked around a little, took my medications and then finally the nausea disappeared (and never came back). The nausea was the worst thing about surgery.

I do not know if I have any restrictions or not, I am not hungry at all, I drink Water, tea, Soup and Isopure during the day and have no appetite at all, I have to force myself to even drink the soup.

I have not had a bowel movement since surgery, should I be concerned? Or is this normal while being on a liquid diet?

Good luck to you and all September Bandsters! I still cannot believe that I finally have my band, I do not even feel it ;-)

Hi Stardustic - I did not realize we had the same time too :) Funny! I didn't have the hiatal hernia they explained that to me and how the whole thing relates to the diaphragm and why it is necessary but my surgery took an hour so I'm guessing that is why it was shorter.

Did they give you ANY anti nausea meds? For me it must have been the trial as last time I had the general i felt like crap. And I remember that as the worst thing about the surgery as well for the last surgery I did 15 years ago! And dizzy too. My first words when I came out was 'great anesthesia' - I was looking for the anesthesiologist to thank him!! They must be used to hearing all sorts of things. I think I was saying 'where are the anesthesia people tell them thank you' or something silly like that

I haven't had a bm either (Until this morning!! YAY!!). My instructions said I can take Colace liquid - among other things, I couldn't find the liquid and the pill looked too large (they said the size of an M&M is a benchmark). so i bit into it - UGH do not do that! I am also taking benefiber veggie tablets 2 a day chewables.

I am not hungry and I was sipping liquids but taking closer to normal swallows now. I may feel the urge to burp when I drink I think that is the restriction so if so I slow down.

i still have a bit of gas pain when I burp i feel it on the left shoulder. I have been walking 1.5 to 2 miles a day starting the day after surgery.

My muscle pain from the anesthetic was worse than my incisions - my friend told me they use a certain drug to relax you when they intubate you and some people can get this overall muscle soreness as if they had an intense workout and that happened to me. Bad enough my abs and diaphragm are short but everything else was too making it hard to even turn over in bed or get in and out of bed. Better now though.

Saw my PCP & officially started my 6 month supervised diet 07/26/24. She just told me to eat less carbs & sugar, use the air fryer and not fry my foods in grease, and to try to walk 30 minutes 3 days a week & if I can't do that (and I cannot), to walk 10 minutes daily. Told me to walk fast enough that my heart rate is raised.  She didn't give me a number as far as calories though. A year or so ago I was doing low carb/sugar free and keeping my calories at 1800 or below. She said I should up my cals to 2000 at that time, so that's what I'm shooting for now.
Hubby walked with me today. He's in pretty bad shape so I was surprised he wanted to. We walked down the gravel road at a pretty good pace (for us LOL). 10 minutes walking and my heart rate was 115bps according to my Fitbit and 125bps according to his pulsometer. Either way, it was elevated and I was breathing hard. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a start. We'll do it again tomorrow. 😁
I should be hearing from the surgeon soon. She said if I didn't, to call him next week. Since I HAVE to do the 6 month diet & that's going to put me into January by the time it's done, I'm hoping the surgeon will let me do all my testing in January. I don't want to do it all now and have my deductible get met, only to have to pay the deductible again in January or February for my surgery. Praying that things go the way I hope. 🙏

The global alternative sweeteners market size reached US$ 4.9 Billion in 2023. Grab a sample PDF of this report: https://www.imarcgroup.com/alternative-sweeteners-market/requestsample
Factors Affecting the Growth of the Alternative Sweeteners Industry:
Health Consciousness: The increasing awareness among individuals about the health issues linked to high sugar consumption, such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, is supporting the market growth. Consumers are becoming more health-conscious and seeking products that can provide sweetness without the negative health effects associated with sugar. This shift in consumer preferences is leading to a greater demand for low-calorie and natural sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit, and erythritol. These sweeteners offer the added benefit of having minimal impact on blood glucose levels, making them suitable for diabetic and health-conscious individuals.
Technological Advancements: Innovations in the production and formulation of alternative sweeteners are impelling the market growth. Advancements in biotechnology and food science are leading to the development of high-intensity sweeteners with improved taste profiles and functional properties. Innovations in fermentation processes enhance the production efficiency and quality of natural sweeteners like stevia and monk fruit. These technological improvements are making alternative sweeteners more appealing to both manufacturers and consumers. Enhanced stability, solubility, and sweetness intensity allow these sweeteners to be used in a wide range of products, ranging from beverages to baked goods.
Consumer Trends and Preferences: Evolving consumer trends and preferences are playing a significant role in driving the alternative sweeteners market. The growing demand for clean-label products, which are healthier and free from artificial ingredients, is offering a favorable market outlook. Consumers are increasingly seeking natural and plant-based sweeteners, aligning with broader trends toward plant-based diets and veganism. Besides this, there is an increase in the demand for low-calorie and sugar-free alternatives that support weight management and overall wellness. Food and beverage companies are responding to these trends by innovating and expanding their product lines to include options sweetened with alternative sweeteners, thereby catering to changing tastes and health concerns of modern consumers.
      Alternative Sweeteners Market Report Segmentation:
      By Product Type:

      Global Alternative Sweeteners Market Trends:
Governing agencies and health organizations of several countries are implementing policies to reduce sugar consumption as they recognize its detrimental health impacts. Various regulatory bodies are approving alternative sweeteners for use, ensuring their safety and efficacy. These approvals provide food and beverage manufacturers with the confidence to incorporate alternative sweeteners into their products. Additionally, initiatives like sugar taxes in several countries are pushing companies to seek healthier alternatives to traditional sugar.
Furthermore, advancements in production techniques are making some alternative sweeteners more cost-competitive than traditional sugar. Consumers are becoming more concerned about the environmental impact of traditional sugar production and preferring more sustainable alternative sweeteners.
