September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on the 9th..my surgeon said everything went perfect. I went in at 7:30 and was home by 1:30. I am a little sore and feel a little loopy..but other than that I am good. I am having no gas pains except for an ocasional feeling in my stomach where it feels like I need to burp but can't..like it's just a stuck burp or something..once that passes I feel fine. Hope everyone else is doing as well:tt1:

Congrats on your surgery! I had mine on 9-9-09 too. I flew to SanDiego from GA and then went to Tj so my surgery was around 5pm PT and I was released from the clinic at 1pm 9-10 and checked into the hotel - I felt pretty rough that day - just from stomach soreness- I couldn't get comfortable so I couldn't sleet. Today my daughter and I went walking all through this hotel complex - in all the stores and I felt so much better when we came back to our room and was able to take a 2 hr nap. I still have some gas pains but not as often as before. We fly home tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait to be home! My dr - has you do 1 week Clear Liquids post op and then 2 week full liquids

I hope you are doing well!

Hi everyone,

My surgery is scheduled for Monday morning (Sept 14) at 8am and I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I have been on my pre-op diet for about 2 1/2 weeks which consists of 2 Protein Shakes, 1 cup of fruit, and 1 meal of lean meat and green veggies a day and have lost 10 pounds....I am worried though because in the last couple of days I have gained 3 pounds (I was down 13lbs). I am hoping it is because I started my period on Tuesday, but tomorrow is my last day, so hopefully by surgery on Monday I will be back down. Thanks for all the great tips about the heating pad, and mini bowls/silverware. Congrats to all of you who have already been banded as well as those of you who are yet to be banded.

Welcome to our group! Your surgery is day before mine, I started weighing myself everyday and it just gets me frustrated with the ups and downs so I changed to once a week. I will weigh before going into surgery and then my first post op appt and then once a week afterwards.

Gem and Pam, I am sooo happy for you, You both seem to have done really well. I hope my own surgery goes as smoothly! Keep us posted on how you do, it is so wonderful to share our experiences.

Hi all, I had my surgery yesterday. Surgery started at 10 AM and I left the hospital by 6 PM. Did not sleep well last night, had so much nausea and woke up every hour. I did not expect to feel THAT bad after surgery. This morning I am feeling much better and hopefully it will stay that way and will only get better.

For anyone that has already had the band surgery..............I am on my full liquid diet now 5day post-op and i'm noticing that my "full" feeling is so totally different from the full feeling I felt prior to being banded. Is this the case for anyone else???? Maybe it's because I'm still so early in my recovery, I don't know. It's not a bad feeling just different.

ONE more thing..........I've lost 9lbs in a week and a half since my bloodwork and being on clear liquids after surgery. Is it safe to say that i'll probably gain a couple of pounds back after switching to full liquids since my belly was pretty much empty for so long???

I just wanted to say congrats to all who have had there surgeries so far this month! You all are an inspiration for the rest of us. This forum has helped me so much in preparing for my surgery. Most people don't understand what we are going through so its nice to know I can come here and be supported and understood. Sept 21 will be the fisrt day of my new life! And I am ready!

Hello everyone. Just checking in with everyone. My kids have the flu and I'm hoping I don't get it because it is already hard enough to drink enough fluids, the last thing I need is to get sick. I hope they get better.

Hiya everyone

I have just signed on to this site. Everyone has been so helpful on here, you all really helped me understand what is involved on a very real level, and helped me make my decision!

I'm in the UK and I get banded on the 20th Sep (cant believe how soon this is!) I'm on my pre-op diet now. Sounds like in the states everyone does this for much longer than we do, my pre-op diet is for 10 days (but they recommended 5).

I'm excited, anxious, and generally away with the fairies

Stardustic - we got banded the same day. Mine started at 2 pm and I left by 10 pm.

I was not nauseous at ALL! I am Soooo shocked. I had general anesthesia before and it was a misery. I was dizzy and nauseous it was horrible. Before going into the OR as we were getting ready w/ forms etc... a research team came in and they told me about a drug they are researching FDA approved that helps w/ the nausea. I immediately said sign me up. I don't know if that is why but I had none whatsoever. How groggy were you when you came out and do you know how long your surgery lasted? I was under for an hour.

I got the Lap Band (Doc picked) and she did do some fill but I don't know how much - I didn't ask. I can't tell if I feel any constriction or what is what everything is sore. But not too bad with the Lortab and I'm up and about walking.

I added my name to the bottom of the list. I'm just a little nervous. My surgery was actually scheduled before I met with the surgeon. My pre-op is all done but my upper GI series and meeting with Surgeon on Mon. I hope and pray my hiatal hernia is still small and that he won't cancel my surgery. I'm sooooo ready!

Don't worry some of it is going to be Water weight because of the liquid diet that when you go on to solids especially if you are eating carbs will come back usually 4 lbs.

Good point. None of my weight has come back (yet) in 2 weeks, but I am starting mushies next week....The optimist in me likes to think I am losing my 15 lbs for good! On the other hand, I lost my 15 in the first week, and exactly zero in the second....

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
