September 2009 Band Date

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the lapbandtalk. Was wondering if anyone has had their surgery in Mexico? I'm scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Tijuanna (sp?) October 13 and started Atkins today as my pre-op diet...I need to lose about 17 pounds before surgery. I'd be interested in speaking with anyone about their experiences, particularly in Mexico. Am nervous about going out of the country for this but insurance won't pay and it's about 1/2 the price in Mexico. Look forward to talking with everyone.

Hello 10bluetoes! Got the night before crazies yet?

My surgery today went as follows..

At hospital at 8am

had about 5 or 6 people in and out of my room before the

doc got there shortly after 9

once the doc left the wonderful man who gives out the calming coctails came back in and loaded me up, I don't even remember the trip to the OR. They are very kind over at Soutwest Surgical and helped my experience become not so scary after all. I was terrified going in but they made me feel at ease quickly!

by 11:30 I was awake, hit the xray machine and was back home by Noon. I live a block away so that helps.

I have been sipping Water all day, tried a shake, 2 sips and I was done.. for some reason its suddenly too sweet now. Tried chicken broth, tasted too savory, and I even tried a fat free popsicle.. gross even sweeter than the shake.< /p>

The nausea is horrible but they were nice enough to give a prescription of suppositories that even with insurance cost almost $70 bucks! My sister went to pick my my scripts and had I known it was that much I would have told her forget it. Yes I can be cheap at times. I guess I shouldn't complain though because my out of pocket for the entire surgery was only $277.

Oh yeah... tonight I puked , lots of dry heaves and a few tiny drops of Water was all the reward I got for the horrifying experience.:blushing:. Don't get me wrong I would rather not have vomiting issues but dagnabit if you are going to make me feel like crap at least let enough progress happen to where the nausea is gone.

Apparantely my dr.. Dr. Snow out of Hurst is also starting to do the single incision procedure however he did not bless me with it.. I got all 5.

Bottom line, would I do it again? Heck yes I would

I guess I did get the night before crazies! More 2nd guessing my decision than anything else. I went over and over the reasons in my head and then slept like a baby the rest of the night. I was THAT sure.

To the hospital at 6 am and home at 5 pm. Surprisingly, I have ZERO gas or real pain to speak of. I'm a little sore where my incisions are - but nothing intolerable. I'm up and walking and have been on ice chips and Jello today. All that worrying for nothing...(let's just hope I'm not speaking too soon).

I agree with you on the shake, chicken broth and popsicles. Isn't that odd that they taste so different now? Wonder why?

From here, it's one day at a time......and I'm with you...I'd do it all over again!

Abercchic,

The more you move the easier it will be to get the gas out. Trying walking and make yourself burp and burp and burp. (Or Belch) It does take the sharp pain away. Sounds gross but it helps. Good Luck! You will feel much better in 2 days.

Thanks Jamie! I have been burping some but that hurts pretty bad too! And taking a deep breath is like torture! I am feeling a bit better today though so hopefully it continues to get better!

Ok so just how many calories are we supposed to be taking in right after surgery ? I can hardly stomach anything. It has taken me 2 days to get through one shake. I have creamy Soup that I dip a toddler spoon in and have only gotten maybe a tablespoon of that down in 2 days. pudding, a lick here and there.. soo sweet!! . All I crave is Water water water. I probably haven't taken in more than 300 calories in 2 days and thats stretching it.

When should I start becoming concerned? I no longer have an upset stomach, that stopped yesterday. I am just not hungry!

Hi, I was banded on Sept. 4th, I did not have a pre-op diet to follow. I am now on full liquids but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions other than Jello, broth or cream Soups. Thanks

I was told Low Sodium V8 juice was good, and also Special K Protein Water and shakes.< /p>

HEY LADIES (and gentlemen, not sure if any guys are in the group) I was banded today at 9:45am!!!! Feeling good just sore, shoulder pain from gas minimal but still annoying. Sorest spot is my port site but I feel like in a week I will feel much better. They gave me liquid hydrocodone for pain. Goodluck to all of you that have surgeries coming up!!!!!!!!!!

Which pre op diet are you on???? I was on a low carb diet for 13days had to keep carbs under 60 grams and then liquid only for 24hours prior to surgery.
