amethyst_moonbow 0 Posted September 3, 2009 So here is where all the September Bandsters are lol! I've been on this this thread September 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum and it's been really slow, I couldn't figure out where everyone was lol! We've got a poll going for our nickname if anyone wants to vote! My surgery is scheduled for 09-09-09 and the liquid pre-op diet is miserable right now. I'm hanging in there! Congrats to everyone who has had their surgery and good luck to everyone getting it this week!
goldenearrings 0 Posted September 3, 2009 I was supposed to have surgery 9/3, but on first day of liquid diet, had a tachacardia attack. drank some caffiene in diet snapple, exercised, and had the attack. Now am scared silly. Cardiologist said sometimes high levels of ketones can cause arrithmyia. see doc friday to ask questions. detest the liguid diet of glycerna and 1cp clear broth. Not sure can handle post op or restrictive food. any comments? feedback, thanks
AmandakRangel 0 Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks BooCakes! I am pretty sore today, and sitting in the car for 6 hours on the drive home did not help. I need to walk around some more to get rid of the gas pains. Other than that, all is good! Not too hungry, probably had about 500 cals total of Soup & yogurt & Protein Shake today. Much better than all that broth! You will be on the banded side soon! :blushing: Still pretty sore too! But I keep telling myself it will be all worth it in the end. LOL:ohmy:

Have they rescheduled? Don't worry about the post-op food. I haven't been hungry yet. Haven't had much since Monday night. Take care.:blushing:
TicTac 0 Posted September 3, 2009 golden - my doc uses a combo 800-900 cal per day: liquid/light 300 cal meal which may work better for you. Ask your doc about that? I haven't felt light headed/shakey at all, used Optifast shakes and then a light healthy meal for dinner, a piece of fruit for a night snack. Lost 9lbs in two weeks. nawlinzlady 1 Posted September 3, 2009 Yeah I have been taking the hydrocodone every 4 hours. It is so nasty though. I am hoping tomorrow that it is better. Just got back from a walk around the block, maybe that will help the gas. Take care. Amanda, did you have trouble with those huge pain pills going through the pouch? I'm just curious because my doctor is making me switch to chewable Vitamins after surgery. I assumed it was because regular vitamins would be too large to pass through.:blushing:

Often I have debated if the taste was worth taking it. But I have given it most of the time, to make myself more comfortable.
goldenearrings 0 Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks so much for all of the good info. I hope all of the bandsters do well, and can cope. Will visit the doc tomorrow, but not real optimistic now. The gas pains, issues around swallowing, etc have pretty much scared me off. I appreciate the responses tho.

incolorado 1 Posted September 3, 2009 I was supposed to have surgery 9/3, but on first day of liquid diet, had a tachacardia attack. drank some caffiene in diet snapple, exercised, and had the attack. Now am scared silly. Cardiologist said sometimes high levels of ketones can cause arrithmyia. see doc friday to ask questions. detest the liguid diet of glycerna and 1cp clear broth. Not sure can handle post op or restrictive food. any comments? feedback, thanks This sounds like it may have been caused from dehydration or an electrolyte imbalance, which is a common problem with liquid diets, esp. when you can't tolerate the liquids prescribed (like Glucerna). As I understand it, tachycardia can happen to anyone on a very low calorie diet, especially if Fluid intake is insufficient. On the other hand, it may be something related to a more serious heart problem? Don't know. Anyway, the post op diet is not that bad, at least mine is not, and it is a whole different ball game when you are not actually hungry all the time. Makes it much easier to handle the restricted amounts and types of foods. I am just 2 days post op, have lost 9 lbs since starting my 3 day pre-op diet, and certain that I have done the right thing getting this surgery. What about asking for a more lenient pre-op diet? As you know, some doctors do not require any pre op diet at all. Good luck, hope you work this out.
incolorado 1 Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks so much for all of the good info. I hope all of the bandsters do well, and can cope. Will visit the doc tomorrow, but not real optimistic now. The gas pains, issues around swallowing, etc have pretty much scared me off. I appreciate the responses tho. I complained about gas pains, but they really are not that bad. The whole thing is certainly easier than giving birth, and not as painful as, say, kidney stones. Really, don't base your decision on the fear of gas pains! So minor compared to the big picture! Obviously I have not had any fills, but so far I have zero issues around swallowing since my surgery 2 days ago. Seems like swallowing issues can be resolved by adjusting the amount of fill in the band and/or avoiding certain foods/reducing speed of eating/chewing more thoroughly. Best of luck to you in your decision.
incolorado 1 Posted September 3, 2009 No it's liquid hydrocodone which tastes like cough medicine. It is nasty. Often I have debated if the taste was worth taking it. But I have given it most of the time, to make myself more comfortable. I got the giant pills, not the liquid. I was chopping them in half, but this morning tried a whole pill and had no problem swallowing.

incolorado 1 Posted September 3, 2009 Just in case I have not posted enough today ....here is my update: Feeling much better today, 2 days after surgery. Gas pains are still hanging around, but not constant, and port site is still sore, but not terrible. For your viewing pleasure, I am attaching a pic of my incisions. Not too bad, though that single incision procedure would have been nice!
nawlinzlady 1 Posted September 3, 2009 I got the giant pills, not the liquid. I was chopping them in half, but this morning tried a whole pill and had no problem swallowing. I find that sooo strange, that they would give those huge pain pills. Especially since they made me switch to chewable vitamins because of their size.
