One week and one day out!!

Recommended Posts

Well, I was banded a week and a day ago!! All the pain I was experiencing at the port site, is almost all gone except for a little soreness in the area. Who would have thought a few days ago, I would be feeling this good? I went back to work yesterday and had a 12 hr. work day and felt good other than just a little more tired than usual. I can't believe it has been only a week and I feel so good. Did everyone else feel this good? When should I be able to go back to the gym, even for just the treadmill? I am definitely glad I had this done and would not change anything about my whole experience. B)

Hey Vanesa~

Congratulations on a successful surgery and a swift recovery! B)

Sounds like you are doing really well already!

I hope I'm in your shoes, in that I mean I hope I have a swift recovery also when I have my surgery. LOL.

Just try not to over do it since it is so soon already. I'm sure a little walking will do you fine. Just give it a little more time, so everything can get all healed up nicely.

Now hopefully you have all this energy when you can start doing more things huh? LOL. Good luck to you. :D

i started walking the day after surgery. I asked my doctor when i can start kickboxing, she said until i get a bit more weight off she didnt want me doing high impact so i dont mess up my knees. You have to go by how you feel, i would not go body building right now but im sure you can walk and do some stretching.

I have port pain off and on, i just take motrin and it goes away, i also have some shoulder pain if i eat to fast.

Sounds like you are doing great Vanesa! I had surgery on Friday and will go back to work tomorrow. I am looking forward to it. Gets my mind off of worrying about not getting enough liquids and away from FOODTV...lol. I am hooked!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
