Slow Losers - Unite!

Recommended Posts

hey Beka i got ya beat, 8 months after surgery i had only lost 16 lbs. now thats frustrating and discouraging. i gained 12 lbs back when my stress level went up because i reached for ice cream(my comfort food) read my first fill story on page 94 and u will see how confused i was for months. i actually wasted months by not going for a fill when i should have, but as my story tells i was told that my pouch stretched. anyway i've lost 13lbs since 12/15/07 and that's because i can't eat solids until after 6:30 in the evening because that seems to be the only time of the day that the food doesn't come back up. Hang in there and revaluate your calories and if they are healthy ones. Water is very important.

I morning when I got on the scales I just wanted to cry. I have good restection and follow the rules. I have not been exerice much because of the hoildays but I plan to start back this week. My question is is there anyone eles out there in the same boat as I am in.:P

Exercise is Key. I wouldn't have lost anything if I didn't exercise

5-6 days a week. If you ask any of the people who have had good weight loss, they all exercise at least 5 days a week.

PB stands for productive burp. Sometimes we burp and some food comes with it. More of the time, when something is stuck and won't go through the band, you puke. It's all out puking, not burping. Usually a bunch of thick spit starts coming up first.

Yep, that's slime alright. It's the body's way of trying to get the food to slide through the band.

I hate it and try to take itty bitty bites and chew very well to avoid this at all costs.

I think we are all in the same boat, I have not lost any weight since July and my restriction is good. I don't eat ice cream, I eat a little Protein in the evening and a Protein Shake with a banana in the morning, a few raw almonds and maybe some saltines and a little cheese during the day and still do not lose any weight. I have not been exercising as I should but you would think I could lose a little anyway, but NOOOO my clothes do not fit any looser and the scales keep being my enemy. So I know your pain. Its mine too. But will keep trying, the alternative is gaining and that is not going to happen!!! Hang in there, its got to come off someday!!! Linda

You're right about that. I refuse to gain and I was happy I didn't gain over the holidays but I really want to lose this last 10 lbs.

I don't see how it would be possible for me to exercise anymore than I am already. I exercise 6 days a week.

to anyone who gives a damn, i slime alot and i have puked alot until i figured out when and how much to eat. i still have a tendency to not chew enough and then it comes up, eat too much & it comes up, forget not to drink 30 mins before eating & it comes up, eat something i know doesn't set well with me & it comes up. i always wondered about the ball of mucous i barf up. if that mucous wasn't in there i could eat more. HaHa Thanks for all the info, it helps to know that i am not alone on some of these things. Denise, i think that the key for me from here on out is to exercise, because the scales aren't moving(but neither is my body, :heh: ) good luck to all:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

I hear ya nonad! I hate the whole sliming thing. I have to be sooo careful.

I also agree we need another thread. How do we do that? I'll start it if needed!

Also, I can't make my next fill at the end of this month and I'm bummed because they can't get me in again until March if I cancel :)

I just can't afford the gas to get to UVA this month. I live 6 hours away! But I know I need a fill because I'm not losing. I've only had 2 fills since my surgery in June! And I can eat too much and still be hungry.... I'm so frustrated

I asked on the thread "taking suggestions for new LBT" if

we could have a new slow losers thread on the main

page so it would be easier to find.

If Alex doesn't look there right away, someone needs to

send a PM to Alexandra.

Welcome to the "Slow Loser" thread on LBT.

A few orders of business to begin.

First, we need to elect a leader. Someone who will voice our opinion clearly and with wisdom and humor. Our Leader will support us in our efforts and remind us of our NSV's and to not be discouraged.

I nominate - Vinesqueen. I can think of no on here on the board more eloquent and positive in her day to day outlook. (she has no idea about this, by the way - this is my own little invention - but I still think she should be our leader)

Second - we need to define "slow loser". I would propose that a slow loser is someone who is losing (or lost) less than 1 pound per week (average) during the first year of banding.

Third - Our Mission. Our Mission will be to stick together as a group. There is always strength in numbers. As we see newly banded people losing more in a month or six weeks than we have lost in 6 months to a year, we will join together and remind each other of how well we're doing. We'll chant the LBTSL ( that LapBand Talk Slow Loser) mantra of "It's not a race, it's not a race" over and over again.

Will you join me? Will you, a slow loser, a turtle in the weight loss race, make your voice heard amongst all these rabbits? Mostly will you let me know that I am not alone out here in bandland?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

I support the definitions and the nominee. As a slow loser, at just one more fill until my band is at it's quota, we need positive support and continual encouragement. From one turtle to another!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
