Slow Losers - Unite!

Recommended Posts

Hi Kim:

Like all things in life, there is always cause and effect. If you are not getting the results you seek first make sure they are reasonable and then secondly, make sure you are following the rules. I have worked with over a hundred Lap-Band patients and see both the "successes" and the "failures." Every single time someone is losing weight very slowly or not at all; one of the pieces of their weight loss puzzle is either missing or out of balance.

My suggestion would be to spend time looking for answers and solutions and not banding together with like minded people. Remember the success rule... find successful people and emulate them in any personal or professional venture you undertake.

More to come...

Who is this person telling us we don't need to be in a group???? I have always been a slow loser but I still don't appreciate someone telling me I can't join a group of like minded people. We are all in this together and we don't put people down, we try to encourage them and cheer them on when they do good and stand with them when they are down and having problems. I was banded 10/26/06 and have lost 35 pounds so far and for the last six months have struggled but am not giving up EVER, it is just taking me longer than I thought when first banded, but eventually I will get there and so will everyone else in this group. So Here is to all the slow losers out there, be patient and keep on working for your goal. Linda

I'M FAIRLY NEW TO THIS TOO. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS REGARDING WT LOSS WITH THE BAND, food QUESTIONS OR ANY OLE QUESTION JUST ASK. SOMEONE WILL BE BY AT SOME TIME AND ANSWER IT FOR YOU. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS OR COMPLAINTS POST THEM TOO. PEOPLE ARE ON SOMETIMES AND SOMETIMES ALL THE TIME. GO BACK AND READ SOME OLD POSTS THEY HELPED ME A LOT. THIS SITE IS FOR SLOW LOSERS. I WAS BANDED 11/30/2006 LOST 40 LBS INITIALLY GAINED BACK 10 AND HAVE BEEN AT A PLATEAU FOR 6 MONTHS NOW. VERY FRUSTRATING BUT MY ANSWER TO MY PROBLEMS IS NOT ENOUGH TRIPS TO THE GYM. SO TO THE GYM I GO FOR MY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION. I JUST WISH I HAD SOMEONE TO GO WITH I HAVE NO MOTIVATION. ONCE THE KIDS GET ON THE BUS IT TAKES A BULLDOZER TO GET ME UP AND OUT OF THE HOUSE UNLESS I HAVE TO WORK WHICH IS ONLY 2 DAYS A WEEK. BEST OF LUCK AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND EVERYBODY ON THIS SITE

:angryLINDA,

I AGREE WITH YOU TOO WHO IS THIS PERSON TELLING US WHAT TO DO. WHO IS SHE TO GET ON THIS THREAD AND PUSH US DOWN. SOUNDS LIKE SHE'S FROM SOME PROFESSIONAL PLACE OUT THERE. BUT, PROFESSIONAL OR NOT SHE HAS NO RIGHT PUTTING US DOWN. WE SUPPORT EACHOTHER AND THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. THANKS FOR YOUR OPINION.

Who is this Sequoia person? I have also worked with, approved, and followed more than a hundred LapBand patients. Guess what, even slow losers are folks who are actually following the Band rules. Maybe the missing piece of the puzzle is just a slow metabolism or something that's not an error on the patient's part. I'm tired of hearing "so-called" medical professionals blame patients for being obese - we've had enough blame handed to us. I was a slow loser and eventually I got it worked out. Therefore if there are others who are finding that the scale isn't moving as fast as they would like, why not have them seek fellowship with others in a similar position?Just because someone is a slower-than-average weight loss loser doesn't mean they are not successful. I know this first-hand.

So you might have 'worked with' a zillion LapBanders but your testimony isn't any more valuable than one LapBander who has actually been there.

SequoaiHealth, my doctor has performed thousands, not hundreds of lapband surgeries. I have lost 65% of my body fat the first year. Statistically that is quite common. I am a slow loser. I lost 40 lbs preop and 65 post op the first year. I love this forum for support. Not everyone hits their goals the first year. My surgeon is very pleased with my results.

Thanks for your opinions, I still feel we all need each other. I am having a hard time with work, kids, stress and lots of other things to deal with an am not eating or exercising right, so I know why I am not losing as well as I should but am not beating myself up about it. Hopefully it will all smooth itself out soon and I will get going again. Thanks for all your support. Linda

nubeginings- hi there :) i was banded 8-17-07 by dr ortiz in tj.

and i too have not lost much since my surgery. i got my 3rd fill last weekend and i THINK? im at my sweet spot. i got my first fill in tj and i got 3 ccs. next i got 2.5 cc's for a total of 5.5 cc's . last weekend i got 2 cc's more for a total of 7.5 cc's .. and i think for now im at my sweet spot-i can hardley eat 2 or 3 bites of scrambled eggs for Breakfast and have to almost force down some chicken or beef and soft veggies for lunch and cannot eat very much for my evening meal. i have to drink my Water very slowly but i do get all of it down. i have NEVER

pb'd or slimed - i can tell if i had not chewed something well

enough tho- i guess this means i am at my sweet spot- i understand that as i lose weight i will probably need another fill or two. i really enjoyed your quote" dont stop 5 minutes before your miracle" i have been very discouraged reading abpout others that were banded the same month as me and they have lost 50 lbs and i have not lost hardly any :)

i will hang in there:) i hope the next few weeks let me know if this is my sweet spot :(

They say the body can't lose weight if it thinks it's being starved. Maybe you're not eating enough. Can you try getting a Protein Shake in every day? Others have said that got them losing again.

i could not possibly get one down until the evening time- they are so thick- i will try drinking one for supper and see if that 'jump starts' me -

Are you using a Protein Powder that you mix with Water? They are not thick at all. A lot of people like Matrix or Ungury that you can buy online. Once they are blended, they are really just as thin as water.

2thebeach- thats awsome that you may finally be at your sweetspot. I'm debating on whether I should go get another fill or not. I'm restricted in the morning till around 10am but then am able to eat a bear through the rest of the day and night. Unfortunately my night eating is my downfall. Would give anything to reverse and feel restricted at night. Please keep posting on your progress so I can live vicariously through you!!! I promise not to be a hater and a good cheerleader. :scales:

hello, I am new to any kind of talk forum so I'm not sure that I am doing this right. Obviously I do weight loss the same way because I am ONE SLOW LOSER. Here's some history, Lap-band surgery on 9/8/06. Lost 5 lbs the liquid week before surgery, Stayed on liquid for 3 more weeks with a small amount of cheating. Lost 16 lbs during that time. total of 21 lbs so far, yeehaw! Don't get too excited yet because once I started on solids my weight loss stopped. I went through a very confused time. I ate 1/2 of what i used to could eat and nothing was coming off. My first fill was not untill 3/07. the Doc said I didn't need a fill and that my pouch was stretched. Boy was i discouraged. By the way, did I tell ya that my year has been very stressful, My mom is headed toward dementia and doesn't remember it. she won't sell her house and go to a retirement community, blah blah blah anyway I am the only one who has been taking care of her and she lives 80 miles away, not to mention I have 4 jobs and 2 kids in college. To top all that off in 7/07 my bi-polar sister and her 4 dogs moved in with my family, indoor dogs, stress level just went up again, i turned to ice cream and I gained 12 lbs back with lots of inches. I was thinking that if my pouch has stretched then why get another fill. I could eat a lot more food by this time but i thoiught it was because of a stretched pouch. I finally decided to get a fill and see what was going on. I have to drive 6 hours to get a fill. on 12/15/07 I got another fill and got 1.1 cc's. Doc said I was past due for a fill but how would i have known. He did get me too tight though, so i am having trouble eating any solid foods. Since my fill i have lost 5 lbs on mostly liquids, talk about a slow loser. That is where i stand today. I use Unjury Protein Shakes and their Jello & pudding recipes. Anyone have any comments. Oh yeah, I don't exercise much.:cry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
