jess, i can relate to your story.

my dad passed injuly 05 and his twin brother nine days later, my son had a stroke the previous december and my mother lost a breast and went through chemo right after she returned from being evacuated (with my oldest son) from Rita. (it was a tough year)

it was preband but i gained a hundred lbs. we eat when we grieve.

top it off, id quit smoking dec04 (after 23 yrs, 19 at three packs a day) and stayed smoke free during everything else.

after my mom started chemo i found the answer one day. The day she called crying saying she lost her hair (she had been in denial that it would happen, she thought attitude would prevent it) i went to a local salon and had ALL my hair cut off (to a supershort cut, like a little boys) and kept it that way until i felt i was done. Its just now growing back. Its right now scraggly and about chin length. it worked though. Im not saying a donut isnt sexy.....but sometimes something big makes that "when i said whoa, i mean whoa" statement better than suffering quietly through it, regardless of what it is. Im in galveston right now hiding from the snow up north and working. I go back home on March 21rst. Good luck to you!!!

Hey there, i was banded July '06 and as of today i have only lost 20lbs total. I know my problem though. I am not following the rules and haven't been for some time. My band is awesome - i am just not making good choices. For the past 6 months my mom struggled with brain cancer. :cry She went home with the Lord this past Monday - knowlege and encouragement from you guys :clap2:. I hope you all have a great day - i know here in my part of Texas it is beautiful outside!!

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. That had to be really hard to go through. I don't know what to say to ease your pain, other than I lost my mom 4 years ago, and it's really hard to think about not being able to talk to her anymore.

We are all here to support each other, and let us know if there is anything

we can do to encourage you.

Wow! You really have had a horrible year. I am so sorry. We hear about the hurricane victims but this actually makes it a lot more real.

I hope you will stay here on this thread and keep us posted on how you're doing. We are here for you!

I just read some of the past posts, and the struggles we are all having. It doesn't make sense that meat gets stuck and it's so hard to eat, but junk food goes down just like we were never banded.

I know for me, the only thing that helps me is to just eat Protein and veggies, and very little fruit. The more carbs I eat, the more I crave them. It gets really old, that's for sure. I get really sick of eating the same things over and over again. But I know for a fact, if I eat something I am not supposed to have, I will gain a couple of lbs that it took me a month to lose. It very discouraging, but I know I didn't pay $10,000 and take out a 2nd mortgage on my house to not lose this weight. I have to keep remembering that.

Can't eat much of anything when I first wake up, everything gets stuck. I have bad epigastric pain and pb. But by midday, I can eat all the junk food I can suck down. But high Protein foods like white meat chicken, fish filet's and vegetables or salad's still get stuck, even with the tiniest bites and chewing as best I can til its mush.

Oh how I wish I could just eat 6-8 oz....be full as a tick and be done!!

I'm not sure if I'm a slow loser or not, but everyone in the "January Bandsters" is losing a lot more than me, well it seems. I've lost 25 pounds since January first. 13 pounds before Surgery and 12 pounds after Surgery and its now been 2 months. I guess I am a slow loser...that sucks.

You're doing better than me. I was banded at the end of Dec. and lost 20 during the liquid stage and 2 since then. It's very discouraging. I hope when I get another fill, I start to lose. This is ridiculous.:phanvan

Honestly, I only started losing weight after I got my 2nd fill. The first one did absolutely nothing for me. I was going at .6 pounds per week. I weighed myself at the gym and I seem to have lost 5 pounds in 10 days but I think that might be a lie cause maybe the scales are different at the gym. The gym helps a little. If I didn't go to the gym, I wouldn't lose at all. Do you go to the gym?

Yea, I got the gym habit 3 years ago in my last attempt to lose weight. I lost inches in my thighs but never lost an ounce. Now I feel really guilty if I don't make it to the gym. Right now I have a bad cold so I didn't go today, but I usually spend the most time on Sat. and Sun. when I don't have to worry about hurrying to get to work. The only day I don't go is Mon. because it's so crowded on Mondays I get too frustrated waiting around to use the stuff I want to use. Plus I read you're supposed to take a break, so I choose Mondays as my day for a break.

Totally dissapointed expected so much more. I know a lot of it is me. Lack of exercise, wrong food choices.I have been able to gulp the whole time. My Dr. closed his ofice and moved on to bigger and better, which means i have to dirve futher. I have not had a fill since Oct. My next one is April 2. Do i need to ask for a major fill? Thanks fo the support.

I think it is better to get a smaller fill. When you get a large fill you usually are to tight and that is not good for you are your band.

I agree with going for smaller fill amounts. Once you get even close to good restriction it takes much smaller fill amounts to get there and stay there. My last 3 fills were only .2ccs each time.

Wow Lianan you've done great - over 100lbs. The band didn't work for me but it has changed my life. I've not lost but haven't gained the 40-60lbs I would normally gain in a year. I'm moving soon and will have a traditional job and insurance and will again be looking for possible answers for my lack of weight loss but for now I am happy holding steady. Sometimes I wish I could eat like I did before banding but that doesn't last. My eating and eating behaviors have changed so much but I know sadly I would go back to all my old ways without the band. For that reason I am glad I have it. However, it has cost me close to 20,000 and to have only lost 11 or so pounds is not a huge consolation. So to all slow losers, slow is better than nothing - don't give up.

Wow - glad to have found you all here - I have been feeling really discourged.

I can not seem to loose it - and struggling w/ eating right - I do good for a period of time, and then not. I am learning. PTL I am not gaining.

I had my surgery Nov 20th. So far I am down about 30lbs - that is w/ about 15lb lost on the preop diet

I suffer from edema really bad, so I can go up and down 5-6lbs a day.

I have had my 2nd fill and from my first post op visit have only lost and had only lost 1lb in 8weeks. I was so disappointed!

I don't feel I have too much restriction - loved the post op restriction - it was so easy to obey and be aware of what I was eating.

This is hard because my habits need to change, to make it work, so I am struggling w/ myself.

Any ideas and encouragement will help.

Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
