Second week....

and of course still on liquids. I was told that I should take small sips of my liquids but I haven't had any problems drinking normally. My questions will this change once I start on mushies or regular solids? Will I feel full once I'm eating even w/o a fill? Thanks:mellow:

3-4 days after surgery, I was able to gulp liquids just as I had always done before the surgery, and that didn't change, until my 2nd fill...then everything changed...I take a sip and it takes 3-4 seconds before it goes through the band...I can feel it and I can hear it...if I take big gulps, it doesnt hurt, but it take longer to go through, in fact, if I drink a glass of liquid, I feel satiated and not hungry for a good 10 minutes sometimes, especially in the morning. Now if I take a sip of liquid with some food...that actually hurts, and has been known to cause a PB.

3 days after surgery I felt some restriction when drinking clear liquid. Days 0-2, I was just sipping my liquids (having about 60cc of liquid an hour). On day 3 I drank probably 2 cups of broth at once. It was WAY too much and I felt full for quite sometime and a little uncomfortable as well (I think I was just not used to having that amount at once). However, after that, and when I moved on to mushy and soft foods I didn't feel any restriction and could eat the same amount as I always had been able to. I just had my first fill about a week ago and I have some restriction but I'd like a little more. I'm hoping that will happen at my next fill on Aug. 25th. Good luck and congrats on your surgery!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess I will wait and see. Today I was starving and figured what the heck its only 3 days till I see the nutritionist and start on mushies. So I decided to have some cottage cheese. Oh my goodness it sat in the middle of my chest for about 3 hrs. I walked, drank some Water and went "potty" (u needed to know that!) and finally felt better. I guess I will stick to liquids till told different. I learned my lesson! Mind you it wasn't a full stomach feeling....more of an indigestion feel.

The postop diet is for healing and a major cause of band slippage is advancing the post op diet too quickly. I wish they'd call it something besides a diet so people who have dieted (and cheated, like me!) in the past would realize this is an entirely different ball game. Since it gave you so much pain, Petunia825 you should tell your doc what you ate. He may need to do some tests to make sure you didn't hurt yourself.

i don't mean to scare you! Some docs treat this type of thing more lightly, some more seriously (ie the tests etc)

but let your surgeon either laugh it off or check you out. The pain isn't a good sign.

You aren't a pig! (although petunia is Porky's girlfriend I love Porky LOL)

You're just human. You need to tell to make sure you're OK, not to confess or any such thing, ok?

If your Nutritionist blows it off (mine would've had a heart attack LOL) make sure you run it by your surgeon or NP ok? :) I'm sure you'll be fine but since it hurt you, and for so long (and cottage cheese IS a mushie) it's safest to get checked.

I had my second fill last week, and if I don't conswciously think about it, I still gulp most of my liquids, specially Water. I know I'm going to regret it one of these days.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
