hi everyone

thought i might introduce myself

my name is alyce, 20yo and live in melbourne

i've been overweight my whole life and have tried EVERYTHING to get healthy. i'm a constant yo-yo dieter and it's putting alot of stress on my life

i finally decided to see my GP today about getting the surgery and he was all for it

i immediately signed up for health insurance and now have to wait the 12mnths before i can get the surgery

i'm insured with AHM. is anyone else with them? they assured me it covered the surgery so they better be right!!

anyways i'll be floating around on this site over the next year following everyone's progress!

Hi!

Good on you for making the final desision...I am waiting like you for the last 6 weeks of my private health cover to kick in...it has gone fast and I am sure yours will too.

My waiting time is up on 8th october so I get my op very soon after that.

You will still be up for $3000/$4000 though. I have been saving like mad.

anyway we are sure to see you floating around

Yes I am with AHM and didn't have any problems. As the previous poster said you will still have out of pocket expenses which will add upto approx $4000.

Which Dr are you with? I got banded in June by Dr Nottle.

hey guys

thanks for your support

yep i know about all the costs, $4000 is alot less than $1000+ !

i actually work at a medical clinic and my doctor has worked alot with Dr Nottle so i'm also planning on seeing him

this 12month wait will definately be a drag, i'm so impatient!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
