3rd fill (8cc total) now what?

Recommended Posts

After my recent fill (#3) I can honestly say that I notice a change but I can still eat almost anything. bread is not my friend unless I take it sloooow. pizza cust very little at a time.

I have lost 10 lbs since my surgery so I'm a little concerned that I may be coming to the end of the road with the band. I have the larger band with a maximum of 11 cc. My next appt is in one month. I know my Doc is expecting to see me lose 4-6 minimum.

I assume he may do another 1 cc from here on. On a good note I have stepped up my exercise program with good cardio work out but time will tell if I'm fooling myself.

Another friend of mine who has the same Dr. said he has 11 cc now and can eat everything with no problem. He said the Dr. is being very understanding and not charging him for his recent care. He may need to go back and have another band pute in.

I hope this thing works out for both of us. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't know how it will work with you, but as the amount of saline in my band gets closer to the size of my band (7 5/8 cc's presently in a 9cc band) It takes smaller amounts to make a more significant difference. Don't give up, make good choices, drink Water, exercise and get another fill. I've heard of doctors filling beyond the band capacity because no one is ever sure exactly how much is in the band...Don't lose faith.

There comes a time when ACTIVE efforts are necessary along with the PASSIVE action of the Band to make headway toward your goal..

Very Well said Jack!

Chicagoboy, have you tried writing down everything you eat to see just how much you are consuming? you may be suprised to see how much you are eating. I started logging all of my food here in the food journal thread. It really does help, or try tracking it on Fitday.com to see just how many calories you are consuming?

We have to do some of the work and not rely on the band 100%..I can eat certain foods all day long not matter how tight Iam, there are certain foods the band will not restrict and those just happend to be all of the junk foods we all love , chocolate & ice cream , cheetos etc..

Maybe try writing down what you eat for a couple of days so you can actually see it in black and white , it may help you seeing it in front of you, I know it does for me, when I journal I make better choices, no question about it

Your 100% right. I was told to do that on my last visit. Did I do that? No

But now seems to be the right time. Thanks for that web site. I'll start in the am when I wake up.

Peace!

I went through gastric bypass surgery with my daughter 3 years ago. She lost 100 lbs. the first yr. and wears a size 10 (down from a 24) and looks wonderful. She still has trouble keeping some foods down. Can't eat mashed potatoes at all. She cried for 2 weeks after her surgery....so depressed at the big change in eating. I'm convinced a lot of it was because she simply loved food (whereas I just eat to get full) and she knew it was permanent. I think with the band you always know there are choices and adjustments that can be made. I hope I'm not as depressed as my daughter was. I have no idea what to expect. Hope the seminar fills me in, but they are only going to tell me the good things. I want to know real life experiences.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
