IMHO, it depends on your pre-op diet and how long you are on it . . if it is the 6 month weight loss diet that you have to do for insurance, it's probably OK as long as it's still a while out from surgery. .. but if it's the semi-fast immediate pre-op diet designed to shrink your liver, or if your surgery is coming up real soon, then NO, alcohol is the LAST thing that you need! The liver has to process it, it won't help you at ALL.

I agree with Riley. If you are close to surgery than I wouln't risk it. When on a pre-op diet for 2 or so weeks, it is meant to shrink the liver. That is why you either go on liquids or no carbs(in my case). Alcohol is made up of a LOT of carbs.

Well, a lot of us have been there, and you wouldn't want to mess it up right before. I had to sit through a lot of family functions during my pre-op and it was really hard. I needed a lot of encouragement. So if I can pay it forward I will. Let me know if you need anything!

I agree with others I wouldn't risk having a drink or two so close to your surgery. I was told if I didn't follow the liquid diet and my liver hadn't shrunk the surgery would be cancelled. The coordinator of the program I am in told me she has seen the doctor cancel a surgery in the operating room because the patient did not follow the liquid diet and that patients liver was not pliable.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
