I don't know how far out you are from surgery, but I did experience that feeling for a couple of days after surgery. It just tastes funky and there's nothing I could drink to get rid of the taste. I will say that hot tea did help more than cold drinks.

Or could it be that you are in ketosis (body burning fat). I don't mind it because I know that fat is being burned by the body, but man oh man does my mouth feel funky!!

You may have a touch of the thrush. Its a yeast infection in your mouth. Does your tongue have a white coating on it?:)

Did they give you an IV antibiotic before surgery? That can cause thrush in your mouth. But it could very be that you are in ketosis and you are burning fat and that will leave a VERY disgusting taste in your mouth, if this is the case it is a good thing. It means your body is "eating" its fat stores!!!:)

Is your tongue tender? Run your fingernail over your tongue, yes I know it sounds disgusting, and see if its tender...:)

You probably have thrush. All you have to do is call your, MD office and tell them you had surgery and they gave you antibiotics and now you may have thrush in your mouth. They will prescribe you a swish and swallow liquid. All you have to do is swish it around in you mouth and spit it out. But it will get rid of it. Until then you can eat yogurt and that will replace a lot of the good bacteria back in your mouth. But beware... if it is the thrush, you will eventually have a vajayjay yeast infection soon.:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
