Advice Please

OK here's the scoop. I have 3.5 cc's in my band now. Some days I can eat like a horse and others like yesterday I can only get down about 1 1/2 cups of food all day. I drank Protein shakes for the other meals.

I am going next week for another check-up and will ask advice there, but I am leaving in 4 weeks for Vegas. Don't want to be too tight while there but when I get back I am leaving for Myrtle Beach for 10 days. Don't want to be too tight there either but would rather be there than Vegas.

Thought about waiting until I get back from Vegas or the Beach for another fill but don't really know which to do. Don't want to wait too long between fills.

Husband gets scared when I get tight and PB (which doesn't happen too often) and doesn't want me to get another on soon. He doesn't understand how this all works he just see's me sit straight up eating (when it gets tight) and scares him. I tell him that is OK and it isn't the band's fault it is that I haven't learned how to eat and I will get there. I tell him I am in a learning curve and will get there.

When was you last fill?

We all respond to fills differently; my response changes with each fill. You probably still have time to get a fill and see how it feels before your Vegas trip but I wouldn't push it.

I think this is a question that your surgeon would have to answer. When I have problems like this I food journal and write down when I had problems and with what food (and how much of that food) and let my surgeon tell me what he thinks is going on. Did you have your fill under fluoro so your surgeon has a reasonable idea of your restriction ? I went a very long time being too tight and being miserable. I found that I was throwing up Water some mornings, and then some evenings I could eat like nobody's business.

I really encourage you to make an appointment with your surgeon and talk about this. Also, I would ask him what he wants you to do in a situation like the one you suggested. Where should you go if you are in Vegas and you are just too tight and need to get some saline out ?

Hopefully he'll have some good answers for you !

Thanks for the responses. I do have an appointment next Thrusday (13th). I think I have decided not to get another fill an just watch what I eat while I am in Vegas. That way I can call as soon as I get home and get a fill the middle of Sept and will leave for the beach the last of Sept. That will be the best. I intend to see what my Dr suggests and he is real good, I really like and trust him. He is very conservative and I think he will agree with me......

Thanks again,

Suzanne

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
