Biotin is a supplement that you can get in most stores that sell Vitamins. It usually comes in a "Hair, Skin, and Nails" formula. If you are having hairloss and it is being caused by a lack of B-vitamins and Biotin, then it will help with hairloss. But your hairloss may not be due to a Vitamin deficiency so you need to make sure you are covering all possible causes.

With weightloss surgery the typical causes for hairloss are:

1.) Vitamin deficiency: Make sure you are taking a good daily Vitamin and getting plenty of B-Vitamins.

2.) Protein deficiency: The general requirement for WLS patients is 60G of Protein per day.

3.) Stress: Surgery and the sudden diet change can cause stress on the body triggering it to shut down non-essential processes like hair. Making sure you take care of 1 and 2 above and give yourself time and rest to heal and the body will eventually recover.

Your hair is on a 3-month cycle. So if there is hairloss it usually starts around 3 months from surgery as long as you are getting your Vitamins in it should come on slowly and slowly peak then slowly lessen within another 3 months. Then keeping up with a good diet you should see regrowth within 3 months.

Although Biotin will only help with hairloss if the lack of it is the cause, it doesn't hurt to take it. Either way it does make you hair and nails healthy.

I have been taking Biotin and I think it has really helped. Not just with the surgery but just in general. I have thin hair anyway and this has made my hair feel much more healthy and thick

I take this as well. I like it. Seems to work. Small pill, too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
