Question for those who have been banded a while..:(

So I am 11 days post op and I had an episode of BP/sliming last Friday b/c I ate too big of a piece of fish. Lesson learned...

Today all I had was mushy food and I took a drink of Water (way past the 30 minutes required by doc after eating) and I feel my mouth filling w/ saliva and getting that queasy feeling. I go to bathroom and throw up slime about 3 times. WTF!? I ate slow today and didnt cheat. I havent even cheated at all!:smile2: It was so random. has this ever happened to you? My dr hasnt even given me a fill yet. Sigh. I am getting so paranoid I want to just go back to the liquids stage even though that isnt a good idea. Help! :)

Awww, slime. I sorta miss the slime. :smile2:

Maybe you were a little full when the liquids went down, and well... what doesn't go down -comes back up!

For many of us, at 11 days post-op we were still on liquids. Everyone's doctor has different post-op plans, of course, but since you are having problems with mushies it probably wouldn't hurt to go back to liquids only for a few days. So soon after your surgery you could still have some swelling, coupled with possible irritation from your PB on Friday. Doing liquids will give things a chance to settle down.

It isn't a matter of cheating or not. It's a matter of finding your way. If you are eating slowly, eat slower. If you are taking small bites, take smaller bites. Eventually you'll find what stays down.

Sliming and throwing up won't kill you but the less the better. (Not that you can fight it if it starts.)

11 days post op, you are still healing. I would allow that to happen before worrying about losing weight. It will happen. And it will likely happen slowly -- about a pound a week. Don't freak. Hang in there. You'll get to goal, no doubt.:tt2:

I was banded in December. I still occasionally PB on mushy foods--me and mashed potatoes don't get along! I can even PB on liquids if I gulp them fast.

I'm the same as L12. I actually got SlimFast stuck on Saturday. I was in a hurry and trying to slurp it down, but it had other ideas. As long as I take my time and take small sips/bites then I do fine.

I've had liquids get stuck because I took a swallow that was too much! They tell us to sip but until you get liquid stuck, I don't think it completely sinks in. Nowadays, I can get it into my mouth and realize it's too much to swallow at once. It's just part of the learning experience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
