Was fill too tight or slipped?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've had an eventful weekend. I've had my band for years. I recently had a fill last week. Almost from the moment I had the fill I felt too tight but thought I was swollen. It was hard for me to drink anything but I managed. The day after it was worse but I still attributed it to swollen. On day 3 I went to full liquids and had a harder time but again talked myself into thinking it was swollen. That night it was like there was no hole for anything to go down. I could not even drink anything without a bad pain and throwing it up. The next morning on Saturday, I called the Dr. the on call Dr. told me to come in because to get unfilled. He unfilled me and instant relief. I could drink. He said most likely it was mt band was too tight and to take it easy the rest of the day. I was able to eat mushies with no problems on Sunday. Today, Monday, I called my Dr. to talk to my Dr. He was not in but the nurse told me to go back on liquids because I am most likely still swollen. She told me that he will want my to wait a week to get filled again and most likely want an UG to see if it was slipped. I am still sore like I am slightly showllen but nothing like I was. I'm now able to drink with no problems. Does this sound like a too tight fill or slip?

It sounds like you are swollen from being too tight for few days. It probably isn't slipped, but they will find out when you go in. When you start getting filled again, make sure they take it slow. How many ccs did they give you at that last fill?

Thanks for responding. I only had 2ccs. I had half taken out last November due to pregnancy. It put .5 ccs back in at the end of May and .5 back last week.

Since you have been banded a while and you only had 2ccs, you may be really sensitive to fills like I am. I have only had two fills, each one only 1cc and I was banded over a year ago. Did you notice if maybe you were slightly more restricted the day of your fill before your visit? I get tighter if I have any stress at all. On those days I have to drink warm liquids before I eat. If you don't have a slip, and you probably don't, then have them take your fills .25ccs at a time and just see if that helps. I hope everything goes well and keep me updated.

Sounds to me like you were too tight. Insist he go slow on those fills. If you have been banded for years your stomach may feel like it did on your first fill.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
