How hungry are you?

Recommended Posts

I had my band put in 2 wks ago today and I was just wondering when I should start feeling hungry? I have been following my doctors orders - 4 wks of liquids, and with everything I have read, I thought I would start feeling hungry by now... at least at some point during the day... NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING... but I just thought that the swelling was supposed to go down in about a week and then I was supposed to start getting hungry. Its good that I am not hungry, but I am only getting in about 600 - 800 calories a day, and I know I need to get more... its not that I am too restricted or anything... I can drink my slimfast in about 2 minutes or less, and I can drink Water without any thought as to how fast I gulp... It just seems odd to me...

Anyone have similar experiences or know if this is normal for some people?

I really didn't start getting too hungry til right before I started on solids (so about the 4th or 5th week for me), but I guess everyone is different in that respect. Just take advantage of it while you can :) hehe

Christine everything is fine, just be thankful that you are not hungry and go with it. Don't wory about trying to force calories. Keep drinking your shakes so you get your Protein in. When hunger hits you, it will hit you hard. Eventhough you can gulp, don't, drink slowly because it makes for good practice for the rest of your life.

With the little calorie intake you will see those pounds come off.

I was ravenous after about a week post op. Protein Drinks were, frankly driving me bonkers. I was supposed to stay on a liquid diet for a month, I just couldn't do that- I managed 2 weeks. I'm now on the mushy stage, and happy with that.

Like others have said - if you're still not hungry then lucky you, what's your secret?

Just like Jack, I started to feel hunger at around 6 weeks...which was great because 2 days later I was scheduled for my first fill (which was yesterday)....After my fill yesterday I was very hunger and since I was on Clear Liquids and couldn't eat....well, I went SHOPPING instead!!! Today is full liquids so I don't have an excuse to shop today, but might go shopping anyway!!!

Also, like Jack said, when hunger hits you will know it....good luck....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
