Help? Emotional Eating

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 1st, have lost 30 lbs since the process began. On average, I walk about 10 -15 miles a week. I've become obsessed with walking. But I feel like a serious failure because I'll get down in the dumps (aka something goes "disastrously" wrong) and eat EVERYTHING in sight, I do it consciously too - which is probably the worst parts of it. It's just like the "old times". :-

Any suggestions on how I can avoid this?? Tips, tricks, ANYTHING?

Thanks for any advice!

Therapy. No kidding. I went for a year before the band, still go to her occasionally if I find myself eating for no good reason (and the ONLY good reason to eat is hunger. disasters don't count)

I found mine when I googled "behavioral therapists specializing in eating disorders in San Antonio, TX" I kid you not. :) Good luck.

The band will only change your physical act of eating, not the emotional or mental! If there is emotional eating, make sure that you get to the root of that, instead of looking for the band to take care of it. Definitely look into it.

Echoing therapy. I'm going to go as soon as I get my new insurance card--old insurance didn't cover it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
