Trying not to Gain!

Recommended Posts

I was hoping I would be trying to lose at this point, but right now I am just trying not to gain. I am 6 weeks post-op tomorrow and have a fill Wed Aug 5th. This Bandster Hell is alot tougher than I thought it would be, I can pretty much eat anything I want and restraint is difficult. I am trying to hold on to my 20lb weight loss thus far. To all bandsters out there who are in this zone hang in there. I hear it gets better. And I appreciate all the support I have found on this forum. The words of wisdom from all those who have gone through the Bandster Hell has been so encourageing. Thanks.

I have only lost 30 lbs -- Dec 9 2008 was when I was banded -- I have other health issues and can not drink all the fluids --

it is slow and discouraging but I am not gaining

I can be discouraging but this is your time to be healing. You need to concentrate on that and then worry about the weight loss. This is definitely the most difficult time for everyone. The weight loss will come. Everyone loses differently also.

Honestly, the first six months were hell. I had ok restriction but could still eat a lot. I went from 267 to 235 right away but I was stuck there for six months. I stopped weighing myself everyday and just lived, could have been a disaster like it used to be but instead I randomly dropped down to 222. Now I've realized that I have huge plateu's...I'm not a steady loser, I go months at the same weight and then randomly drop 15. So now I don't get discouraged and just keep going on a healthier lifestyle. More recently I was stuck at 197, I "pigged out"(bit too many starbucks frappucino's lol) one day and was worried, weighed myself and I had dropped to 185,so just worry more about living and treating your body right during this time, it will probably be thankful and show you a nice return on the scale. Good luck.

blackcherry2002,

Thanks so much for your comments they are so true. I posted that post a few weeks ago, but not much has changed. I did go for my fill on Aug 5th and still have little to no restriction. I have my 2nd fill on Sep 2. I totally get what your saying about the scale and living. I just got back from being on vacation for the past 2 weeks and nowhere I went had a scale. I just didn't pay it much attention ate when I was hungry and tried to make good choices. I came home and to my surprise I lost 4.5 pounds in 11 days. I really appreciate the words of encourgment as i really did need them. I think I am going to put the scale in my husbands care, and focus on doing my part and pray that next fill will give me a little bit of restriction. Thanks so much..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
