I am 5 days post op and my discharge instructions were to get 64 oz if hydrating liqueds in a day, but I just can't do it. I am getting probably 45 oz including all liqueds. My stomoch just feels too full and I have to sip slowly. I feel great otherwise. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't feel dehydrated or anything but I sure don't want to get that way. I am trying to decide whether to call my surgeon? I know it is normal to have restriction even without a fill, but should I be able to get in more fluids than this?

Call during office hours unless you feel dizzy or loopy.

I had no problem drinking from the start and in fact drank probably 20-30 ounces of Water in the hospital before they let me go home that evening...(and they were doling it out. MAN i was dry!) so I don't have any personal experience that can help you...

Not to be crude but one way you can tell if you're ok is if you are urinating 3-4 times a day (at least)....

and is your urine super concentrated? super concentrated can be a sign of dehydration...

initially you have excess Fluid from the surgery you're getting rid of and that can help you a little.

64 ounces is the usual healthy minimum though. So yes, call your doc tomorrow if you can't get that in. He may have filled you some during surgery and need to remove some, or may feel it's just normal swelling/healing and want you to just monitor it...? but you should be ok till tomorrow, just use your judgment

I am also a person who has great difficulty with liquids and have all my life. After I was banded, my skin began to get really dry particularly my face. I had never had problems with my face like that before and freaked out. I discussed this at length with my surgeon and she emphatically stated that I must get them in. She made a suggestion and I used it to ensure I do just that. I made a schedule for myself that fits in with my day. I have to literally think about it in order to do it. But it really helped me. Also, I bought a bunch of bottled Water and started carrying a bottle with me where ever I go. I sip it all the time now. I wasn't easy but it keeps getting easier for me. When I get really bored with the water, I add the single packets of crystal light to it. Not all the time, just sometimes. I hope you can figure someway to ensure you get the fluids in.

You are perfectly normal! You are still swollen. In a couple days you will all of a sudden be able to drink all your water! It's completely fin!

I am 12 days post op and have had the same problem.

I called the surgeon's office on Friday night, and they said that as long as I am not 1. dizzy, or 2. nauseaus, then I shoud be Ok unti Monday (tomorrow) morning at which time we are looking at taking out some fill.

I know it is scary, but just keep in contact with your doctor.

Post an update to let us know what they say!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
