Worried . . . banded on 7/28 and I feel my stomach churning

Recommended Posts

I am instructed by my doc to be on full liquids/puree for 2 weeks post surgery. I had some liquified potato Soup a while ago. It was probably the consistency of a milk shake. I ate probably 1/2 a cup of it and my stomach started feeling weird and felt like it was "churning." I know that the liquid diet is supposed to keep your stomach from churning. I wonder what I did wrong?? Now I am worried about my band.

Was the Soup too thick? Someone said on here that liquid means, "liquid at room temperature." Is that so? B/c I'm sure that my potato soup is more of a baby food consistency at room temp. Anyway, anyone have any thoughts?

call your doc monday and ask, to be sure. Note how you're feeling so you can describe it. Full liquids is a little aggressive for so soon post op but if that's what your doc told you, then you should be able to do it.

I think maybe it was too thick; could you get it through a straw?

Your doc should be able to tell you but again, if you're following his orders then odds are high you are ok.

Thanks for the fast reply  I could get it through a straw. It was also seasoned more than I have had since surgery. That could have something to do with it. It definately wasn't bland. My stomach feels like its settling down now but I still don't want to do anything to mess this up.

You're probably fine but do call your surgeon tomorrow and make sure (hard to "diagnose" over the internet and besides I'm not a doc anyway! LOL so no diagnosis from this chickie)

Odds are you're just really soon post op and your stomach is kicking up a ruckus. I didn't get anything but Clear Liquids when I was at your "days post op" stage so I can't tell you from personal experience...

Today was my first day for all liquid diet. I guess all surgeons are different as far as their recommendations but I was told no more than 1/4 of a cup or 2 ounces at a time for 6 weeks. Maybe you are too full? Or too much gas? I agree with the others...call your Dr.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
