Hi Greg,

I'm not a guy but I have heard of guys in my area that have had the surgery. My surgeon has testimonials on his website. There are 5 men on there. I'm not trying to promote my surgeon or anything but if you'd like to read what they had to say you can go to the site. It's www.journeylite.com

Good luck to you.

Hello Greg. I am certainly not a fake man & I am having the Band put in on August 20, 2009. If you look through the sub-forums you will see one called "The Men's Room." This will give you several guys to talk to about the surgery. If you decide to go forward with it I wish you the best of luck!

Jason

There are PLENTY of men that have had WLS.

I know that it looks like this is a Chick-oriented Forum, but there are lots of guys here.

And few that are somewhere in between.....

I'm a man, and i am definitely as real as real can be. And I am having surgery next week. That doesn't mean I am having my nails done, too, but hey...maybe I should!!! Haha

Hey! YouTube has a very nice community for lapband support. There are a few men who do a weekly video log of their success with the lapband. Steve, 2thousandand9, I think is his username has been successful and very regular at updating his progress. Down 130 lbs since surgery in January. Maybe check that out.

"real men don't (fill in the blank)"

I hate that phrase. What is a real man as opposed to....what? When my husband says it it makes him sound insecure and I just want to smack him upside the head LOL

Don't worry about what other people think, what business is it of theirs anyway? Do what you need to do, and if that means seeking help, don't in any way think of yourself as less of a man (whatever that means)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
