It is tough to just do liquids, isn't it? I saw my surgeon yesterday and have a list of his approved items. Of course, you should check with your doctor but here are a few ideas:

sugar-free Popsicles

sugar-free Jello-O

broth from chicken or beef noodle Soup (strain out noodles, etc.)

Isopure Protein Water drinks (fruit flavors)

I have found that I really like Isopure Protein power in vanilla flavor. It's not a milkshake, of course, but it's not too horrible. I didn't like the Isopure Water at all but lots of people do. Be sure to find out what your doctor wants you to have. There are many more things on my list but the things I listed are the most "clear" and friendly.

Good luck to you!!

What does your liquid diet cover? Did you get info from the doc? I'm sure he didn't just say "go. have only liquid. here's the bill" LOL

it's different depending on your doc. what does yours SAY?

I would think your pre-op diet will have at least three Protein shakes a day. As for other stuff, IF broth is part of the food list after you check with your doc, don't buy the stuff in boxes or cans. Unless it says "low sodium" it's loaded with sodium and none of it has much taste. Try this instead...

Put a whole chicken in a large pot and cover with Water. Add a little sea salt, a little pepper, a little garlic powder, a bay leaf, quarter an onion (don't even bother to peel it), some chunks of carrots and celery. Simmer until the chicken is falling off the bone. If you have other people in your household, that chicken can go in a pot pie, chicken salad, etc. Strain off all the solids and you will have STOCK, which has a lot more flavor than broth. Post-op, when you advance to mushies, you can puree a can of tomatoes and add to that stock. Yummy.

You can cook a pot roast the same way.....

sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello, juice (for sure, post-op but ask to make sure if it's on your pre-op), Crystal Light, 64 oz. of Water a day.

I'm in the same boat and it's a real bugger. I am sipping on Centrella brand chicken broth. I am so sick of sweet stuff like carnation instant Breakfast and slimfast. I did have some sugar free Jello and that was fair. I am just a foodie I guess and that's why I am in this situation. I try to tell myself it will be ok, I am doing well, havnen't cheated but smells are getting to me because I have an active household. I kicked up some V8 with mexican spices that were'nt too salty and it was not too bad.

When is your surgery date?, I am finding that I'm on here a lot when I get hungry and it focuses me to the real reason for going on with this in the first place.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
