August 2009 Mile Challenge

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Team! I haven't posted in a few days. I am surprised at how much I miss coming on and keeping up with everyone. I returned to work a week earlier in order to get my classroom organized. I usually spend a full 9 to 10 hours at work each day. If I want to remain successful on this journey, I must make time to connect with you all a few times a week.

Deb. I'm glad you are doing well. You are such a trooper. I will be praying for your overall good health. Have fun this weekend.

Jenai. Congratulations on your noticeable weight loss. I know that makes you feel good that someone else can see your results. I received another 1cc to give me a total of 5.5ccs. I have a little restriction. I've been so busy at work I have skipped Breakfast and lunch. Wasn't drinking much Water either. I began to retain Water. Panic set in when the scale started moving up rapidly. I'm finally losing again. Planning my meals should be a priority. Most of my dinners this week have been take out. I hope I continue to lose with this fill. It should be easier now that I am busy again.

Willowcat have you gone back to work yet?

I sold a book the other day on Amazon.com. It was a weight loss surgery cookbook. It had a lot of shellfish receipes (I'm allergic) so it didn't really work for me. Anyway the buyer lives in Seattle. So I emailed him to ask if he was by chance attending the weight loss surgery conference and I could bring him his cookbook instead of mailing it. He replied that he and his wife would both be there and gave me their cell numbers for making contact. I thought what a small world. Kind of neat! Looking forward to meeting them.

Hi guys! 21 miles ran this week. Feels great to look back and see what you have done. This time one year ago I couldn't have walked 21 miles much less ran. Everyone keep up the good work.

Sorry, Didn't get my miles to you yesterday ... I just returned from a 4 day weekend to Chicago...I was determine to get in some exercise since I had to lay off Tuesday and Wednesday....So I utilized the hotel exercise room ... I did a variety of exercise so let's see

13 miles Walking - 6 on country rd. rest on machine

4 miles Elliptical figuring 2000 strides per mile.

I know this I have no way to measure except for time ...I spent 9 1/2 hours past weekend in Water constantly moving feet and arms...Good movement but not so much to move heart rate into target zone. It really helped hip and knee soreness!

So I think legally I can say 17 miles? Right.

Well, I start back to school tomorrow. 3 workday/meetings and Kids come in Thursday. I'm hoping my morning schedule is going to work...Come on Early Birds let's give each other good vibes in the morning!

i had another good walking day at red lobster (11.5 miles), but i'm starting to think that walking isn't enough for me. I need to get something a little more strenuous in order to see some weight loss. I'm only down 10lbs since surgery 3/30/09 and that's very frustrating for me.

I need your help. There are several of you who have weight loss tickers and I've noticed you all are losing weight. What are you eating? Give me a typical day's menu. I do not have much of an appetite now that I have returned to work. I hope I see results now. I've lost inches, but would love to have the scale move in the right direction.

Hi Deb! I started back last Wednesday and the kids came today. I'm proud to say that I've been up at 5:00 and on my exercise bike each and every one of those days! It must be all the good vibes you and the other Early Birds are sending my way! ;) It feels so good to know that my exercise "debt" has been "paid" for the day! Also, my energy level is so much better so far this year--I'm 35 lbs. lighter, and my heart and legs are stronger from the exercise! Yeah! Good luck on Thursday with your students.

2911, Your ticker indicates that you have just 39 lbs. to lose. Perhaps that's the reason you're struggling with slow weight loss? Everyone says the closer you get to goal, the slower the weight-loss goes.

I started my band journey with 150 lbs to lose, and yet I wasn't seeing much movement on the scale. I found a post on the Slow Losers Unite board about increasing protien (I think the thread is called, "A Few Weight Loss Tips From a Slow Loser--Now at Goal). She said that once she started adding Protein to everything she ate, that the weight just started melting away.

After reading that thread, I increased my Protein like she suggested. I did start seeing the scale really begin to move after that. Don't really know why it works for me, I'm just glad it does. Also, my band is pretty tight right now and I am hardly eating much of anything. I don't think I would be a good example of a daily menu (if this continues for another week, I'll probably get my .5 cc taken out--I think I might be too tight). Good luck. I know inches lost are nice but pounds lost are somehow even nicer.

I heard about the seminar on obesityhelp.com. They travel to many cities. I really would like to go to the one in Dallas as Dr. Lomonaco from Big Medicine will be there. The price is very good. It was $50 for all the speakers and there was a $10 off coupon bringing it down to $40.

I would definately go again when it is close to my area.

Thanks Willowcat. I will look for that thread. I want to get to the level of restriction where I do not want to eat much. Sometimes I eat out of habit. I want to break that cycle.

Are you only able to get liquids down? How many ccs do you have in your band?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
