I am brand new here and am excited to have found a forum like this!

I had surgery 7/30/09 (2 days ago) and have yet to lose weight! In fact, I have gained 1 1/2 pounds if I take the hospital's scale on the day of pre-op and compare it to my scale at home just now.

Should I be concerned or am I way too impatient?

BTW the surgery went great and I am not in ANY pain (it should be noted however I was sent home with a pain pump for the incisions).

Yes you are to impatient... Seriously stay off of the scale, you are bloated from all the gases they pumped into you during surgery.

Just follow all your post op rules and worry about losing weight later.

Glad to hear your surgery went well!

You will start to lose soon, follow whatever your Drs. plan for you is. They know what works best for you for the healing phase and then moving forward. Try not to get discouraged when the fat doesn't magically melt away while you sleep!! :) It will start to happen soon, and each lb. down will give you a kick in the pants to keep going!

Good luck! :)

I gained 3.5lbs from the surgery - most likely from all the Water. Obviously there was no way it could be fat, since I hadn't eaten anything!

I'm not paying any attention to what's on the scale for quite a while. Especially since I'm really not getting enough calories in, so I'm sure my body is in starvation mode or something.

I gained 4 pounds after surgery and lord knows I wasn't eating anything. It came of soon. No worries give yourself a chance to heal.

Stop worrying about the weight loss just yet - you are two days post-op! Right now, focus on healing and setting the stage for future weight loss.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. You're only two days post-surgery!

(I gained a bit post-surgery too. I was soooo hungry after about 4 days, my doc said I could have oyster crackers and for a week and a half I ate a lot of oyster crackers. LOL And yes, I gained a couple pounds... but once I was healed and eating better, they came back off and I've continued to lose.)

Good luck!

I got mine on the 24th. Day of surgery weigh in I was beyond happy to have gotten under 300, though just barely... Day after surgery in the hospital I gained a pound. 5 days post op I had lost 5 pounds from my surgery day weight....... Altogether in the past 3 weeks, I have lost 20 pounds at last count, and that was a couple of days ago. I am still on Clear liquids for another week and expect through just normal clear liquid diet I will lose more....

Thus far I have almost gotten one size smaller in my clothes, my face apparently lost all the 2 lbs cuz I keep getting told how thin my face looks AND I have been able to put my wedding band and anniversary band back on...

Slow and steady, yep it sucks, but darn, it sure was a boost to know a week post op I already got a non-scale victory in getting to wear my rings comfortably...

This is the time for resting, relaxing, learning to eat in a new way and a healthier diet also. The real work and the benefits will arrive soon enough. And then you will be wondering what happened to the days of resting... :)

Thanks everyone! I think I was just too excited. I did end up losing a few pounds so it does make me feel better. I need to realize like the previous poster said that it is a marathon, not a sprint and even if I lose a lot at first, I am sure I will have my ups and downs.

I appreciate the posts! So far, so good. I go on the all liquid diet today. Recovery as of now, thank goodness has been pretty easy and uneventful.

Hi Micnat. I was also banded July 29. Besides the gas, like everyone mentioned, I've also been retaining Water due to the heat and humidity. I understand how hard it is not to get on the scales every day, but I know in another week or so, you and I will see dramatic differences!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
