Wow that really depends on so many factors...you, how you heal, your surgeon, his skill, what he uses to close the sites, etc etc. I have scars but am older, had 2 surgeries just weeks from each other, etc. Your surgeon will probably be your best source of info AND...s/he can tell you what product(s) you might use to minimize whatever scarring there is. (there are quite a few on the market now and I think there are actually several that work) Good luck!

As "Restless" said, scars are highly dependent upon the person. I can tell you about my experience: I am 5 weeks out from surgery. I had 5 incisions. 1 incision was directly in the center of my "tummy" and falls about an inch below my bra line. It is a tiny one, about 1/4 inch.

The other 4 incisions look like a dotted line going across my tummy (about an inch below the top one I mentioned above) in this pattern: __ ______ ____ __

The first and the last are tiny (about 1/4 inch). The 2nd one is about 1 and 1/2 inch and the third is about an inch.

The longest one is my port incision, and the port is slightly to the side of it.

All my incisions are healing nicely. I have been using Mederma, but there are several good products out there (so I've heard). The tiny scars are barely visible (small and light pink). The bigger ones are a little darker pink.

I seem to have good luck with scars, but that is my personal experience -- everyone is different!

I hope this helped you with your question.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
