shoulder pain at anticipation of and after eating

Recommended Posts

I'm being banded in 1.5 weeks and just joined this forum. But my dad, who was banded approx 2 years ago started having severe left shoulder pain at the anticipation of eating and after eating. Anybody ever heard of this?

I have only been banded 3 days now and that is where I have my pain. In my shoulder, after I eat. It isn't that bad. I have heard people on here, say it was horrible but for me it wasn't and isn't. I just lay down and put a heating pad on it for a while and most of it usually goes away. I am hoping for this to stop in the near future so we will see... Jennifer

I had very severe shoulder pain for about a month. I began to get worried it would not go away but it did finally. I use a trick my Mother-in-Law taught me years ago. Take an old pillow case and cut it to the size and shape you want to fit your shoulder and sew all three sides. Fill it with uncooked rice about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Sew up the fourth side and place it in the microwave for about 2 mins. Place on shoulder. It really helps and you don't need an outlet and if you fall asleep with it it doesn't matter. I have several different shapes and sizes. They work great for lots of areas like that and are economical. Good Luck.

Thanks so much for the advise. After I posted this thread, I did more research and found several others who had the same problem and some also said it could be from eating too much, too fast. Since then, he had 4cc removed from his band and has had no pain, but he's also eating a lot more, he'll have to have a lottle more put back in.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
