Does full feel different after banding?

Recommended Posts

Not sure I can explain this correctly, but I will try. I am only 7 days out and on mushies, so still in the learning curve. But one thing I have become aware of is that I never feel full. Physically I mean. But neither can I eat much either. I think I am STARVING, but then eat a few bites and cannot eat more (can't give you an explanation for that either, just KNOW I CAN'T eat more). Is this normal or is is because I am still sore and healing. Thank you. Be gentle with you today, Dyanna

Yes. Full feels different.

Right now you are post op and probably still swollen from surgery so what happens now isn't what's going to be.

However, that "stuffed from Thanksgiving meal" full feeling...you won't feel, nor want that with the band.

You'll just kind of go from hungry to not hungry. It's subtle but you'll learn the signal.

for now though just follow the post op diet your doc gave you and wait it out.

Hope I was wondering the same thing as I'm a wk post. I feel like a football sits inside and my throat has something like a lumpy feel. Yet my stomach still growls at times. I guess that feeling must be the full signal.

I missed feeling full and went through a time of eating ice cream, junk food, "sliders" so I could feel that fullness in my stomach. I did not lose weight doing this....

Now I am adjusted to the feeling of being not hungry. RM described it well. You'll hardly ever feel like you did after Thanksgiving as she says. But Feeling that way is how we all got this way! Yuk yuk

Just cruise for a while- let yourself adjust to a new feeling. Control your anxiety with exercise or hobbies instead of food- this works for me.

Good luck on your journey and it is a journey!

Sadie

I am 9 days post-op and I feel the same way! I dont feel that "full" feeling that got me this fat anymore...but I do miss it. I dont miss it more than I want to be healthy...thats for sure! :)

I was having this convo with my mom, she asked me if I get full faster but I told her I didnt know! She was like :)....I told her that I just sip a little (still on full liquids for 12 more days:rolleyes:) and then hunger just kinda goes away.

I have not had my surgery yet so I am not an expert by any means. I did find Dr. Terry Simpson in Arizona has little pod casts on his web site. (That isn't even where I am going) that describes a lot of the things people have been mentioning. You do not even need to register to hear them but they have been useful to me already.

See if one of those describes what you are feeling. I think the one that is "I never or don't feel full" something like that.. It was very interesting to me since I don't have the band yet and am trying to see what to expect. But he was saying something about you eat this much (?) and then stop you never eat until you are full because it might stretch the band. He said if you eat the prescribed amounts it will keep you not hungry but not having that full feeling. I am not describing this well but it is worth a look on his web site. Terry Simpson, Glendale Arizona. Check it out it might answer some questions you have. It did me. Especially when I don't even quite know what I am asking.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
