I have 300 lbs to lose 200 would be awesome:) Someone mentioned on another thread that because I have so much weight to lose I should seriously change my mind about getting lapband. She said she would hate to lose this much weight with the band. She has like 50 lbs to lose total. I did my research and want the band the other weight loss surgerys scare me. can I lose 200-300 lbs with the band or is it almost imposible? Im scared now

It's possible. You need to base your decision not off of how much weight you want to lose necessarily, but rather what surgery is going to fit your needs BEST. Research research research, and talk with different surgeons. Find out what makes you want lapband versus other WLS, and what scares you about other WLS. Bring these up to your doctor - you may find that the "scary" things aren't so scary, and your vision of lapband surgery may not be what you thought it was. Try to think about what has caused previous attempts at weight loss to fail - was it no Portion Control? eating junky or sugary foods? Bring this up to a surgeon as well.

Don't listen to what other people think, what surgery they think you should have. You know you better than any of us can. Just remember that this is a huge decision you are making, so don't rush into it, do your research, and if it doesn't feel 100% right, wait until it does.

Good luck!

I agree with Unforgettable. You need to consider the source about all this information (not just the person who told you not to get the band)...ask your surgeon, READ about it, RESEARCH and decide what surgery is right for you and best fits the life you want to lead.

I have lost 75 (almost) and honestly can't imagine why, now that I'm in this and see how well it works if I work it, I can't lose as much as I want to. I've got the time, I've got the will, now I have the tool.

The lap band isn't for everyone. Neither is bypass, neither is the sleeve. Only you, actually, can answer your thread question but yes, you CAN lose TONS of weight with the lap band. Or you can fail to lose. It's largely up to you. Lap band leaves a LOT of control in the hands of the "bandster".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
