my heparin injection was low on the front of my belly and very bruised... many injections are also given in the hip. the other bruising... all over the abdomen.. is clearly from the incision areas and all the work done there, but the belly and hip sure sound like an injection site...and they always feel lumpy and sore in addition to the bruising.

Maybe there is an OR nurse on the boards somewhere that can answer the big sticky thing question. I think they might put a grounding patch on you sometimes when they are going to be cauterizing you ( I am not a hundred percent sure on this but remember seeing this one time.) Maybe that is the big sticky thing, I too have a mystery bruise on my left arm but it is small, I am bruised at my port site but the most obnoxious issue is the irritation I got from the bandaids, I guess I have an allergy to the glue on the bandaids. Who knew???

maybe the mystery bruises are from when they have to transfer u from the stretcher to the op table and back again..i remember a few people having to help do that..maybe u just got clipped a little.

I'm trying to rack my brain why you'd have a bruise there. The idea of the strap across your lap could be it. I've given tons of heparin injections to patients and have never had someone get a bruise from them. You can if you rub it after the injection I've heard.

I've observed a few OR procedures. They do tend to be rough with people once they're under. It's amazing people aren't in more pain when they are recovering.

I was banded 7/30/09 and only had a slight brusing around one of the incisions but it's already faded.

No, problem. I had that huge bruise also. I asked my doctor and he said it was where they had used something (I can't remember the terminology) to hold that part of my tummy in place. It will go away.

I had the biggest, ugliest, most purple bruise on my belly. It wasn't too bad just out of surgery but it grew in the days following. It was quite interesting watching it spread. (I'm a science teacher and find things that gross others out fascinating). It didn't hurt like other bruises do. It took quite a few weeks for it to go away. I was surprised because I don't consider myself sensitive but I guess my belly is!

I had my surgery 8/7/09 and have sever bruising also- however I think it is due to the blood thinners... if there is no excess swelling or pain- they should clear up within a week or so.

I'm guessing it's a pretty safe bet it's from the heperin injection you get at surgery time. I also had a HUGE mystery bruise on the lower right of my abdomen. But the nurse had told me the heprin injection is given in the stomach. Other than that I had almost no bruising at all at the other insision sites.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
