Hi everyone. New to this sight and I am glad I found it. Can anyone tell me my BMI is 39% and I am scared my insurance company will not approve me since I am not at 40% and I do not have any medical problems except I am plump! Has anyone been approved when there BMI is off by a %?:crying:

Yes, I was approved. You might be surprised at what counts as a co-morbidity. For me, I am on Lipitor for high cholesterol and I have GERD.

I have GERD too but when the nurse told me that it is not a big medical problem. It would need to be hypertension or diabetes. I go for my next and hopefully last visit on 8/10 and after that they are suppose to submit it to my insurance and I am just so scared that I am border line that I wont get approved.:crying:

My BMI was 39 when I started the process. It was 37.4 when I submitted for insurance approval. I have cigna, and they approved me. I do not have HTN or diabetes. The only health issue that I have is high cholesterol. Good luck!

I was worried about getting approved my BMI is only 35%. They counted my GERD and I had my doctor write a letter about my families history with cardiac disease as well as my joint pain. Also have a sleep study done, turns out I have OSA and alot of people do, that is a huge co-morbitity. Good luck!

GERD, arthritis, sleep apnea, knee pain, pre-diabetes, ......you SURE you don't have any of these? My BMI is now 37.8 but I'm on HBP meds and have GERD so bad that sometimes I aspirate into my lungs when I'm sleeping. Also, sugar hanging around 100, so Type II Diabetes is definately in my future if I don't take action now.

Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
