Massages after LB - is it still OK

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if it is still OK to get a massage after being banded?

I am talking about aromatherapy, hot stone etc etc - the kind you get at a beauty spa not the sexual kind. Thought I should clarify that just in case - I've seen the way some of these threads end up. LOL.:juggle:

I am wondering if it would be uncomfortable or interfere with the port or anything like that.

So if anyone has had one I would love to know what your experience was, how long you waited after banding etc.

Thanks

Hi

I was banded in March and I had a massage this weekend. Everything went fine I didn't have any problems. In fact it was the best massage ever. So if you happen to be in AZ I highly recommend the Bliss Spa. Good luck and enjoy.

Since you had surgery in June you should be completely back to normal by now. I haven't had a massage, but I can't imagine that it would do any damage to the port. You can put quite a lot of pressure on the port area without a problem (my surgeon presses pretty hard to find it during fills). I guess you could ask them to go easy on the port area if you're worried about it. Have fun!

Damn HH you beat me to it!!! The second I saw this post I had a happy ending comment ready.

But as for massages I've had a few since my surgery with no problems.

During the first few weeks after my surgery I really had alot of back pain due to the gas...so I went in for a massage, but I still didn't feel comfortable lying on my stomack yet...so they put my on a special massage chair (like the one they use for corporate massages). About 2 weeks later, I was ok to get a real massage and it was amazing...I've been getting them ever since, and in fact it's been alot easier since the surgery, because of all the weight loss, I have a much easier time lying on my stomach. The only thing is that somethimes, the massage therapist wants to massage my stomach area, and I didn't like the feeling of that, I could feel my port moving around, so I told her to stop and haven't let her do it since.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
