Hi Laithlaith

Nervous and anxious is okay! Its normal to feel these things.

Don't forget that you are making a massive life changing step - that in itself has so many emotions attached to it - eg. will I fail even though I have had obesity surgery (wouldn't that be the ultimate failure (that was my big one)) and what if I die on the table (my other fear)

Guess what, neither of them happened. I am alive and well and my BMI has dropped from 47 to 42 in four months. I am losing slower than a lot of others banded in April but I don't mind, I am still losing and it's quite easy.

Hang in there. If you have any questions I am happy to answer!

Hi Laithlaith

I'm also nervous. I'm scheduled 09/04 for banding. I'm wrestling with telling my family and co-workers vs. only my husband knows right now.

Just don't think i want another disappointment......Ugh!!!

I am scheduled for Sept 2 also. Only my husband knows about it. I do not want to be judged. I did not even tell my daughters. I am 60 yrs old so this is going to be a major commitment for me. My Dr said my age should not be a factor. It was my sleep apnea Dr that suggested the operation. I never even gave it a thought before so I figured God must be telling me something.

Add another one to September. I am getting banded on September 16th. I'm jumping the gun cause I was just submitted for Insurance Approval but I am just thinking positive.

My feelings are the same as all of yours. I feel like I will get a little more nervous day by day. I know we will ALL do fantastic. I can't wait to hear about your journey's.

My surgery is also scheduled Sept 16th my brothers birthday. I wasnt going to tell him but since its on his birthday I did. I didnt want him to think I forgot him when I was just undergoing surg. I am really really getting nervous and it doesnt help when my husband and daughter keep repeating are you really sure this is what you want to do? I deal with emotions with food and it has also been the main form of entertainment for me and my husband. ( going out to eat on the weekends ordering pizza ect) I know I really need to lose this weight for my health and my self esteem but cant figure out why now that the day is within reach after 6 months of classes ect am I so nervous. I know this is the rest of my life I dont think Ill regret it but once its done its done. and Im worried the people I have told at work will be watching me and judging me as to how Im doing. If I fail at this after going through surg I will be so disapointed in myself. I dont mean to be negative but needed to get out my feelings before sure. I also am exited and hopefull that I will finally be able to get to a healthy weight. Lots of mixed emotions. anyone else feeling these kind of feelings Help. I need encouragement.

Deann,

I feel your concerns. It's hard because we are in that last phase where the real true commitment time is HERE. You wouldn't have gone through all you've done if you didn't feel you really needed and wanted this. Try to have a little faith in yourself, we're stronger then we think we are. It's funny saying this to you though, cause I have many similar feelings. I am getting scared as it's setting in that my time is really coming and almost here. We've done the research, we know what we're getting into and we have to go in positive and hopeful to commit to these changes and new goals for our lives. So, don't feel silly for sharing or venting, we need to do that too. Just pat yourself on the back for being brave enough to take this route.

BooCakes, I like your name. Thank you for your reply. I am just getting cold feet I guess. But my hope is to get off my medications. I want to be healthy. I am going to put it in Gods hands. Thanks again.

Ladies, take it from me. I will be banded for a year on Sept 2. I am in love with my new life. I know you all will be too. You just have to take things slowly at first. The first month can and may be rough, but that is because it is a surgery. I told everyone about my surgery and I think it helped me through a lot of it. Everyone that I have encountered has been nothing but supportive, especially my co-workers. They have watched the transformation with me and even before me most of the time. I had the old, don't see what's really in the mirror problem. But my co-workers, friends and family have really helped me to see the light.

I wish all of you the best and if I can be of any help, please just ask. Don't ever think that a question is not worth asking...

That's what this forum is for and the people in my monthly group helped me through a few rough times. It helps a lot to know that you are not the only one going through the same thing.

Jenn...you will. We have to believe in ourselves at this point and know we were strong enough to get here. WE can do it. Right? Right! :o

Hello girls,

I was exactly were you are a month ago. I am now almost 3 weeks post-op and let me tell you that it is the best decision I have made so far !! I had never had any surgery and was scared sh%$le$$ but in all honesty I played it up so much in my head that the actual event wasnt such a big deal.

We have all been fed the "this is a tool" line but remeber it's more in your head than anything else. You need to commit fully mentally, emotionally and spiritually to this journey. If you do YOU WILL be successful. My trick was putting up pictures of my skinny self around the house with signs telling me to remeber the goal and whenever I am having a weak moment that will snap me back into place. You'll really surprise yourself how commited you'll become to this new you, I still amaze myself everyday and it's sooooo exciting to slide into those smaller size jeans hanging in your closet for almost a year.

This site is a trasure trove of support and experience and will beocme a critical part of your success, feel free to tap into any group they're all be more than happy to help and so am I just ask !!

BEST OF LUCK...YOU'll ALL DO GREAT !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
